It just depends on what I am trying to determind as far as the knowledge base. I always have to use a combination of testing in my field of nursing.

I normally pull test for a ‘test bank’ that refer to the chapters that we are covering. I then go through and delete question that I know are not challenging. I also create my own ‘hand-on’ visual test; manipulative skills.
I believe the student appreciate of testing because it demonstrates their knowledge of course context.

I LIKE TO VARY THE FORMAT. tHE STRUCTURE OF THE TESTING HAS TO BE FORMED TO YOUR CLASS. eACH CLASS IS DIFFERENT SO HAVING A COMPLETE VARIETY OF TESTS SHOULD BE IN MIND. i LIKE CERTAIN TESTS TO START CLASS WITH THEN MIDWAY IN THE QUARTER I LIKE A DIFFERT STYLE.

I found it easier for me to prepare my tests which are most likely multiple choice. I create them depending on the level of understanding of the class and also on the delivery method.

selecting the test format depends on two factors to me; the difficulty of the materials presented and the type of assessment if it is quiz midterm or final, I prefer to use objective method in exams that test a large amount of information like final, but I tend to use short assays in short quizes

I generally use a mix of different questions that can determine where in Bloom's Taxonomy a student falls. For instance, when covering the Constitution, I will use completion questions to gauge a student's understanding of basic vocabulary. As the test progresses, questions are designed to test whether or not the student has moved from basic facts to application to creating (under the new Bloom's taxonomy.) In the Constitution scenario, I require students; employing the basic ideas in the Constitution, to amend it to address some contemporary need or problem, justify their decision, and anticipate any criticism.

How well my students understand the information they were given.

I usually make up my own exams to make sure that the test content matches the information I covered in class. I will use a varity of formats: completion, matching, multiple choice and true/false. I think it is a good way to see what information was retained.

It depends on the class. Life senerio type questions seems to work best for me.

I agree, it also depends on what class I'm teaching. If I teach coding, they do a skill application to show me that they can find the correct codes. If it is for Anatomy and Physiology, then a combination of multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank.

I have to agree with Amy. It depends on the class I am teaching. If it is a hands-on class, I would do skill assessment test. If it is more of a lecture class, I choose muliple choice, true/false and essay tests.

To make the exam as close as possible to the format used by the national board, whose test they will be taking after graduation.

I select the testing format based on the objectives covered for specific information. If I want to test comprehension, the format is more open ended.

I select testing formats based on the objectives of the class. For example, if I would like to test the retention of pertinent details of a certain topic, tests will be geared towards this.

I am a big fan of essay exams. However, I utilize a variety of formats depending on the class being taught. I have even found that my students are encouraged to read and reseach when given open book exams.
