when using the graphic organizers it help show and break down what the students will be learning and helps them to prepare for the next step
Marlene,
They are such a simple yet valuable resource for the students to use. They have so many different applications that they can be used in almost every setting.

I look at this like stepping stones, and then use the key stones to build better understanding, and advance my knowledge. I believe the students can do the same. It also gives instant refresher cues.
Robert,
I think you will like the results you get when you have your students use graphic organizers. They help them to see the parts of a topic in relation to the total outcome picture.

In some of my classes there are so many elements that have to be kept in a particular order. The use of graphic organizers not only help the students learn tne subject matter in the correct order, it helps me as the instructor make sure I am delivering the information proper order. In the press of the class room activities I can become disoriented too.
That looks like a good reason to use graphic organizers in my Anatomy/Physiology class. It seems they are getting lost in the decoding section and never able to recode enough by test time. Quizzes, oulines, power point only seem to overwhelm them rather than clairify.
Charles,
This is so important for students to have in their minds and a part of their learning strategy. They need to see how this course and the content that is being offered is going to help them move toward their career goals.

By creating a road map in their minds for a mental picture about where they have been, where they are and where they are going.
William,
Many students need to see the parts and/or whole concept they are studying. Graphic organizers can be squares, steps, circles, or flow charts of the different steps or concepts that need to be learned. The students can fill out the graphic organizers as the class progresses and they give the students reference points on how they need to work through certain steps, formulas, or recipes.

Could you explain the types and how to apply that to different types of learners?
Claire,
Thank you for sharing this resource with us. I know many of us will benefit from exploring this site. For students that have trouble visualizing components or organizing their notes graphic organizers are a life save.

Operations such as mapping cause and effect, note taking, comparing and contrasting concepts, organizing problems and solutions, and relating information to main ideas or themes can be beneficial to many subject areas.
Without teacher instruction on how to use them, however, graphic organizers may not be effective learning tools.

Katie,
They are learning guides and can be very valuable for students especially those that may not be the best note takers.

Sudarshan Daniel,
Right you are because the more senses and tactile engagement there is the greater retention of content there will be.

Graphic organizers are a visual way to help students learn and remember class information. Graphic organizers can also help students retain information and see the "important" information better.
using graphic organizers not onlt helps visual learners but also the kinesthetic and auditory ones to decode and recode learned information for long period of time
Graphics affords students to gain a visual representation of your instructions.
Dennis,
This is a great example of the value of using graphic organizers. This helps students to see sequence, flow and impact of an entire system as well as how each part contributes to success.

LaToya,
Yes, they do. They help students to see the content in sections as well as the whole. Graphic organizers help students from being overwhelmed with content throughout the course.
