By getting new perspectives from which to apply new solutions.
William,
I like this approach a lot. You are getting some really good information from the students that can really shape how you deliver content.

Dr. Meers,
Feedback is one of the most important mechanisms we have to maintain the focus of our students. Feedback needs to be constructive on all fronts. Always offer positive feedback at the beginning and then your constructive feedback towards the middle and close with another positive statement at the end. The feedback Sandwich is important to let students know what they are doing right and what could be improved to make themselves better. The instructor needs to make sure that this is constant and is considerate of each student. By having a better understanding of who your students are is easier for instructor to provide this type of feedback in a meaningful way. Also I like to deliver my feedback in person as much as possible. Having the eye contact, voice inflections and the ability to ask and answer questions is imperative to my feedback delivery.
Student feedback helps to keep your focus on your students in many ways. It allows for the instructor to be able to read student comments regarding many things like their teaching method, attitude and how they're preceived by the students. This valuable feedback helps the instructor to make changes to their lesson plans to better tailor to the students.
I am not sure I agree with direct student feedback, because they tend to be less honest about their opinions if they know I am going to read their feedback. I do, however, pay great attention to the post-course survey feedback. Most students, regardless of their personal feelings, seem to put constructive items in their critiques. Obviously, this does not necessarily help a current class, but it does give suggestions effective for future students.
Student feedback is important to me because it helps me keep up with my students. My students telling me what they like or dislike allows me to adjust the way I instruct. I can focus on improving my lectures and lessons so that my students gather the information and fully understand what I am tryig to teach them.
Q: How can student feedback help you to keep your focus on your students?
A: Keeping up with student feedback ensure you know where each student is in your course. This helps to serve a a 'barometer' as to the progress of the class overall. If you fall behind, then not only will you not know what students are needing at this very moment, but it will also undermine the motivation the students have in your course.
As an instructor student feedback can help you to see where you might need to adjust your lesson plan or teaching. Even bad feedback can be benefical if there is something you need to change.
Students like to share what helps them learn and how you might better approach a particular subject.
Student feedback helps me to move in the right direction. No two groups are the same and just because one group enjoys a particular activity doesn't mean the next will. I find that when students are learning in a way that they enjoy the more they want to come to class. The only way to know if I am being effective is to ask the students
Student feedback can help you see what is not being grasped by the students. Every class is different than the last and if you never check feedback you may be losing students that could be retained by a minor tweak in what or how you teach a particular topic in the course.
Helps you make carborator adjustments to how you are teaching and how it is being received.
Well said Stewart, I also appreciate a good feedback from the students.
Student feedback is extremely important to me, it helps me in preparing for future classes. It is amzing the great ideas i've received from my students. The different life experience does shine with the ideas i've receive
At my school we make students take end of semester feedback surveys for each section. I encourage Instructors to also look into midterm feedback methods, formal or informal, which still allows the Instructor the benefit of addressing issues before the semester is over. I have found them useful at times. During those times, I was provided information and made necessary adjustments in that course immediately, instead of waiting to making those changes the next semester or the next time I taught the class. It also ensures a higher percent of positive feedback at the end of the semester.
Student feedback is crucial for me because it is the only way I have of knowing precisely how some of my students are feeling throughout the course. I can sometimes guess or assume but you know what happens when you assume. By getting direct feedback from them as we go through the course allows me to change it up if I have to in order to help students retain difficult information or make them feel comfortable about what they have taken in so far. When we keep the lines of communication open, and my students feel comfortable giving their feedback and suggestions we keep a good vibe going in our learning environment, one that is of equality and respect. I often tell my students that we will learn from each other and we will both be better served from it. They realize early in that I am very serious about that. We all have value and something important to teach each other.
Student feedback helps instructors understand what information or area students may be having difficulties with. Instructors can utilize feedback to reiterate specific points and help make decisions about how they should proceed.
It's always a helpful tool to understand what the class appears to be through the eyes and opinion of the student.
Student feedback has been a key part of my learning experience. I find that it helps me to become a better teacher as it pushes me to try new techniques in my class based on student suggestions of what could have made the course better.
I am always asking for student feedback. I want to know what he students are thinking in reference to the material. Are there ways I can deliver the material more clearly to them? The students are the reason we are there. For that reason, their feedback can only enhance our teaching, as well as their learning, experience.
