Procrastination
I am a huge procrastinator. I know it and I know I have to deal with it. It is hard to break a bad habit and that is why I am glad to have this type of lesson, so I don't do it anymore.
I think stress, time management and procrastination all tie together. When a task is complete with a sense of urgency or lack there of, will determine the productivity of an individual.
It sounds like you struggle with the things you cannot control Shani. Coworkers who procrastinate can really throw a wrench in your plan to stay on task. Unexpected tasks can also derail your efforts. I recommend adding a buffer into your schedule to account for the unexpected where possible.
It really does not help matters what I am working with aprocrastinator. I am one myself and I have been trying for years to get over this very bad habit.
I have been writting to do list for years, but someone elses procrastination can take all of my good intentions and throw then threw the window.
I can get my day or even my week out of sorts when a project lands on my desk out of the blue, but I have learned to roll with the punches.
I believe there is a new mind set in the business world; it is do more with less. Due to budget constraints and the current economic hardships, we are all asked to pick up the slack or help out with projects we might not have been involved with in the past. I think the fact that we might have more on are plate, can lead to procrastination. Implementing a “to do list†can be an effective method to help organize and lay out a plan for completing our workload and responsibilities. Also, as you move forward with completing the list, you can feel a sense of accomplishment by knowing you are meeting your responsibilities within the required time frame.
i procrastination on items that i don't see worth doing or diffuclut to do
I use to be a procrastinator. I found that instead of putting things off because I thought it would be a long drawn out ordeal, just get on it and get it done. Usually I would realize it wasn't as bad as I thought. This would also help my stress level drop.
That is a very good point. We all procrastinate to some degree. The objective is to keep it under some measure of control so that the things that must be done actually get done. Being aware that I do procrastinate is the first step in keeping it under control. As an artist I often tend to just let things happen just to see what actually will happen this is an important part of my creative process, but as a business person I am painfully aware that I must take control at times to meet deadlines and other expectations.
Yes, everyone procrastinates every now and then. Sometimes it's ok. Good time management is just about making sure it doesn't happen all the time.
Procrastination is something that everyone does when it comes to something that they just do not want to do. Sometimes we feel like we have plenty of time to complete tasks and then find ourselves running out of time. I do like the idea of making a list and I have found that if I make a list and follow it things get done before they need to be done and I am a lot less stressed.
I would say that Procrastination is a mind game to me. Depending on the size of the task or nuumber of dirivitives I find myself putting off the big ones until I have all the small tasks done. Kind of like clearing the road. In my mind I tell my self that if I do it this way I will not be distracted and so able to focus on the whole task. I have, in fact, started breaking down the big jobs since taking this course.
I have always been this way. In fact, my mom used to call me Bruce "Manana" Bowers. Anybody have any suggestions, besides years of therapy, to help with this?
I can relate to what you are taling about Danielle. I am just slightly different in the way I do it. I tend to procrastinate at the beginning of a particular 3 week module because I have a whole three weeks to get things done, yet when I get to the end of the module I am in the immediacy mode because now that I have procrastinated to get my task done I am in a hurry. That is something that I need to work on.
