What's stressing you out?
Timt limits. Managing time between teaching assignments, pastoring a church, time with family, friends in need, community events, commuting. Is there a 48 hour day in the future of man?
I think right now what is stressing me out the most is I am teaching a class that I am not really familiar with and the materials supplied do not seem to be enough material to fill up a 2 hour class. With that said, I am now sending endless amounts of time developing materials for this class, i.e. PowerPoint presentations, exams, quizzes,
Full time teaching job, full-time student, full-time mom of a 6 month old baby, and full-time wife to a man who can't seem to cook his own dinner! That is just baseline stress...every little thing that gets piled on top of that is enough to make me lose it.
I all ways have a short time to do them
i need to give this some thought
When I left my job at the hospital I was working in an area I really loved. The downfall to that was that we did not have set hours to get off work. One week I would go in at 5A, the next 7A and the next 9A. my biggest issue was being on call. I had a young daughter, a husband that worked nights and not a set schedule. Teaching has helped with that. I know when I am going in and getting off. Of course there are always additional task put on all of us, but this job is alot less stressful than my last.
Prioritizing always helps me be less stressful.
Also, living each day to the fullest of your capabilities and not worrying too much about the future will also bring morepeace in your life.
Hi Mary,
I often times will have a session with such students and ask them to verbalize just what they would change or what exactly is the problem. In addition, I think have them write down the situation that causes them to be whiny. Generally this will stop the discussion and then I offer them alternatives so they can see why we are doing things the way we do.

Adult students who are needy, whiny, and think they are entitled to everything. I become stressed when I hear the high pitched voice complaining or just being very negative about most things.
Any solutions?

Yikes, that sounds tough Jamie! I recommend finding something to do while you're in the car. Talking on the phone or listening to a great book on tape are two approaches that have worked for other instructors.
That's great Todd! When we share our lists, we also help set expectations about how much work is on our plates. It can help others approach us from a place of understanding and not overload us with tasks.
To-do lists are very helpful, I share mine with my team and ask them to add if they have anything, then we work together to try to accomplish as much as possible.
I agree. Completing CEEs is becoming stressful. There are other tasks that are important to complete, however, my stress is caused by TRAFFIC! Houston has so much construction sites all over the freeways.
That is stress for sure Billy! Learning new things can be stressful. Refreshing your resume will probably bring you a greater sense of calm, even if you decide to do nothing with it.
The CEE's are not too bad, easy to navigate through. You talk about stress, I was maxed out all of last week with trying to navigate through the new skill sport tranning, that this technician would not have not got it done if not for help from a fellow coworked, I started getting my resume refreshened. "Really" Now that is STRESS!!!
Life in general can be stressful. The key is to pinpoint what is most important in your life and put that at the top of your to do list.
That sounds like a tough situation Kerry. Being put to the test by your administration is hard, especially when you already are being put to the test by the job itself. Finding ways of communicating your daily progress to your supervisors may be a way to help them understand the volume of work you take on and how you are managing your time.
They do this to see if we can manage our time or make us have a nervous breakdown. You just have to tighten the belt and do it, because it is REQUIRED!
They keep adding more stuff to do. Like these stupid CEEs I know they are required but they are time consuming and taking away from the students.
That is what is stressing me out
Yes, inconsistencies can be very stressful because we are constantly having to keep track of new rules and regulations. It's much easier when these kinds of things remain constant and we can just focus on working within a consistent context.
I find administrative & academic inconsistencies to be stressful.
