Hi Adrian,
Students get the importance of things through utilizing the use of the computer. Everyone understands young and old alike the relevance of technology.

Patricia Scales

To get students excited about the course I bring current knowledge into the classroom and push them too look at where the computer industry is going.

Hi Penny,
I concur! Excitement really does begin at the top with the instructor. Income is always motivating!

Hi Jake,
Visuals are great to help generate excitement from students. Things become more real to students when they can see it. Seeing really is believing.

Patricia Scales

I believe as instructors and teachers if our student see the passion and excitement we have for our craft it tends to lite the fire in them. Just as a smile is contagious. In my field another way I get to my students is by reminding them how much money they will be able to make when they complete the course.

I like to take my students on a tour of the labs. During this time I show physical examples of projects the students will be building. I then explain how the projects relate to similar operations in the real world environment.

Hi Greg,
I love to mention to my students how the course will benefit them in their career to generate excitment!

Hi Kimberly,
Students really do become super motivated when they see how the course directly ties into their career.

Patricia Scales

Students become more motivated when they see the Course Content for their Career Goals.

Midway through one of my courses I did a lecture on getting a job, and getting promoted. I used the book chapter as a guide but also leveraged my own experience and gave advice. That class forward it changed the outlook for the course as well as the students interest in the content. I plan to give that lecture at the first or second class from now on in any class I teach.

I think my lecture hit close to home for a lot of the adult learners with my own experiences and how I turned myself being unemployed and underemployed into a very successful career through education, completing my masters, leveraging my experience and going above and beyond the expectations for my field.

Hi Arnitra,
Students take more of a calming approach when they know that the instrructor is there for them.

Patricia Scales

Hi Chris,
When students understand how the course will benefit them their excitement/interest levels increase.

Patricia Scales

Hi Phyllis,
What a great approach to take with your students. This is very calming. Just reading the response took me to a calm mode.

Patricia Scales

I talk to them about what feeling is normal and abnormal when starting a new course. I also let them know that I am available for help or tutoring if needed. I do let the students know that the course may seem challenging at times, but to come and talk to me if they have any regretful or hard feelings about the course or even starting school. I always let them know I am available.

Talk about your personal experiences and always relate how the course will help the student in their job

I always talk to my students about how a little anxiety makes you more alert and keeps on on your toes and actually helps you perform better, but that panic really just blows you out of the water and makes it difficult to do anything properly. We then discuss ways the students have calmed themselves in the past and what they did to increase their confidence. We also discuss and practice relaxation techniques and we often do some relaxation breathing prior to an exam.

Hi Jody,
Talk up your on-line syllabus and refer your students to it to generate interest and excitement.

Patricia Scales

I failed last semester in this department. I couldn't get them to visit our on-line syllabus, though I spent a good bit of time adding images and the like. This year I'm going use both a print out and the on-line I think.

Hi Denise,
When you are knowledgeable in your subject matter, students are interested, and they get excited about coming to your class.
