Student Motivation
The Pacific Institute videos have helped me engage my students by asking three questions everyday.
1. What went well today?
2. What are you most proud of today?
3. What do you look forward to tomorrow?
These three questions not only make them think in a positive light, but also creates classroom discussion. The third question has them looking forward to something that will happen the next day that encourages them to want to go to class.
Hi Sharon,
Great way to have the students take ownership in the course! Students love knowing that their thoughts matter.

Sarah,
Those are great questions for students to reflect on. I do something similar with my first term students by having them create a journal entry, which is submitted daily electronically. I can read them to help me reflect on what students found valuable for that lesson or day, what they may still have concerns about and what they look forward to. It makes them reflect on the day and feel as though they have a say in their learning.

Hi Sarah,
Great points made! We must do all we can to entice our students to want to come back the next day.

Thank you for discussing how the Pacific Institute videos have helped you in the classroom. I can certainly see how the questions can assist in keeping students engaged.
Do your students write down the answers to the questions in a journal, or simply take the time to reflect upon the questions in their minds? I especially like the last question which could lead students to goal setting.
I plan to save this information for use in the future.
