Hi Terrell,
I concur! Relationship building is important in the education arena. Get to know your students, and they will work hard to not disappoint you.

It is important to interact with each student to let them know that you are personally invested in their learning. As you interact, you build trust with your students. This trust facilitates a better learning environment.

Communication is one of the most important tool an instructor has in order to teach the students. And, of course, communication cannot be just one-way. That is why it is important to have an interaction with all students. It builds that rapport which is very necessary for the teacher-student relationship. The student gets the confidence to speak to you what he or she may have on their mind. And nothing can be more satisfying to an instructor than to have the confidence of his/her students.

So each student can feel that you are there for them as well, not just for the ones that tend to take up most of open discussion time.

Student learn in a variety of ways and by interacting with them as individuals you will have a better understanding of the students needs to compete and complete the class successfully. The one on one aspect builds trust between student and instructors and allows you to listen to their particular needs and issues on their work.

Students tend to stay in the background when you allow them too. You have no way of knowing how that student is grasping the information if you do not interact with them and simply ask.
Thanks

I feel that it is very important to have interaction with every student because it make them feel like you care about them as a person and that you are approachable. It also will help keep the lines of communication open with them if a problem arises. They feel more open to discuss with you these issues. It also helps you learn them and their personality as well as their learning styles.

Student interaction is so very important, especially with larger class sizes, because it shows that you value each student and each gift that they bring with them to the classroom. Plus, you can engage them personally and bring up their gifts when applicable.

In my opinion, there is nothing worse than sitting in a room for 1 or 2 hours and only listening to a professor drone on about their particular lecture of interest. It does not involve the students, there is no comprehension, there is no participation, and there is no open discussion for clarification. Most students would begin to daydream and then you would wonder why they are doing as poorly as they are on their quizzes and tests.

To interact with your students first you need to learn their names, know a little about them. When lecturing, ponder questions to the class as a whole and then individually call people out for their opinions, but don't tell someone that their opinion is wrong. As a life student, an opinion is subjective, it can not be graded.

It is definitely not a good idea to focus any special attention on any one student. I try to use my own experiences and what I liked or didn't care for in an instructor. In other words, I try to put myself in their place. I also take great pleasure interacting with all types of people and understand that people all have different ways to learn.

Interacting with students is a must for teaching. From the beginning, I like to talk to my students, learn their names, and start by asking them what made them chose this specific field. This establishes a rapport that we can build on, it shows them that I am interested in their success, and I am here to guide and help them on this journey.

Hi Marie,
I can tell you care about your students, and you want to get to know your students. Students love knowing that the instructor cares. Yes, it is vitally important to treat all students the same. Favoritism is definitely frowned upon.

It is important to have interaction with every student for many reasons. One specific reason is to make sure that I don't show favoritism. I also want to get to know each student and how they learn.
The only way to creat a good relationship with each student is to interact with each one. In my classes, I will always call on each student to provide answers and feedback. I will help those who are being challenged. This allows me to get to know each one and helps me to see who needs me more for help with the assignments.

It gets every student involved and it makes sure that all the students are understanding the material. Moving about the room and calling on students, helps get the whole class discussing and critiquing more. It also keeps students from not paying attention or losing interest.

Hi Kizzy,
Absolutely, students learn differently. You can even give a quick online learning style test to your students on Day 1 to determine how they best learn.

Knowing your students individually allows you to focus and teach to their individial learning styles.

By interacting with the students I can get to know them as well as them getting to know me. Plus it makes for a more interesting class

Every student needs to feel equally important and that they are receiving the same attention and education as every other student in the class. If you focus attention on a select few students then other students will feel you are favoring the ones that have your attention most often. Every student deserves the oppurtunity to have one on one interaction with their instructor.

It is important to have interaction with every student to making learning conducive. You can’t single out students who are stronger and leave the weaker students behind. Picking favorites and ignore others is unprofessional behavior. I like to use small group a lot. I demonstrate or lecture followed by a question and answer session. After which, I break my classroom down in to small groups. I normally assign a leader of each group and I let them work together to complete the assigned tasks. I travel from group to group offering assistance and guidance. At this time I make note of the various types of behavior and address it. I make sure the quiet and bored students are actively engaged. If anyone needs more one on one attention I also do that at this time. This seems to work for lab classes. Interaction is key in education.
