seperation of students during tests and quizes works for me.
Hi Teresa,
Great strategies to utilize to reduce cheating. They have proven to be very effective.
Patricia
One thing is to watch for texting. Students can text each other the answers.
Hi Craig,
They get your drift! I am sure this speil is just as effective. You are definitely taking more of a positive approach.
Patricia
Hi Troy,
Great idea! Integrity is certainly a must in the workplace. I also like to talk about ethics as well as it relates to honesty.
Patricia
That sounds like a very good idea
The students are instructed to remove everything off thier desk and every other seat is empty.
To discourage students from the temptation of cheating, you can have frequemt presentations about integrity. Not long presentations, just a metion here and there about how professionalism includes people with integrity.
I do not use the words cheating. But when I talk to the students about professional development with their careers, I explain that there are no short cuts and hard work pays off in the end. This is a reminder to them to do the right thing.

I also have a no cell phone policy for many reasons.

Hi, one way i reduce cheating is all bags, purses, backpacks, phones are sent to the front of the classroom before the test begins away from students. Students must keep both hands on top of the desks at all times while they take their test. thanks jeannie
i like to let them know that cheating will not help them in the hands on lab, i will know when it comes to doing the test, whether you know your stuff or if you have been not so trustworthy. i do not believe that changing or trying to trick or alter tests, or exams is an honest or effective way in trying to show them that they will need to use every resource available to them in thier careers, if they want to succeed or grow. in medicine, we use critical thinking skills to assess and complete are duties. this is what works for me..
Hi Simon,
How do you go about keeping tests secure?
Patricia
Hi Deborah,
Whenever students see that you are very mobile during test time they think twice about cheating.
Patricia
Hi Connie,
I have the no cell phone rule as well. I make my students put them away.
Patricia
thanks for this helpful hint I'm new a new instructor so any helpful hints I'm willing to try.
Have different versions of the test, also have the students sit a seat apart or on opposite sides and having nothing on their desks, seems to work for myself. I usually have the different versions of the test
Use of different tests with the same questions in different order can help but I the best way is to show them you trust them as adults to be honest and monitor them and hope them step up.
I like to move students around the class I call musical Chairs for the test and make sure I space people out. Also I will go to the back of a class room and observe them. I have had them look behind to see where I am at and that works well.
Separate the students or prepare 2 different tests (A & B).
