Quiet/Shy Students
I've added a few assignments to my class that gets the quiet/shy students to speak out in class. Some of these include class introductions, presentations & staff interviews.
I've also noticed that the extroverted student will usually encourage the quiet/shy student to come out of their shell.
Shy students need to be shown how to deliver a speach properly and they need to lead a group. Positive reinfourcement also helps.
Shy students are challenging and there are those students who do a lot of talking. The shy students will fade behind the talkative ones.
Hi Sandy,
Preparation is key to off setting shyness.

I use to be more shy than what I am now. I struggeled with presenting in front of people and still do at times. Knowing that I am comfortable with the knowledge in the subject area is of great help. I have allowed my students to choose how and what they prepare for a presentation. With each presentation I add a few more requirements which brings them up to the level of expectation for class.
Speaking in front of groups- even small groups is skill that is critical in most work environments. The earlier this skill can be practiced the better. My daughter in middle school is required to give short presentations in front of the class. She is shy and doesn't like it but she is getting more comfortable with it the more she does it. Most people (adults) don't like public speaking, but with practice- most can at least get through it.
