I agree too...instructor are rolde model to the students. So we should act and dress appropriately.

Hi Stacey,
Distance is everything in a student/teacher relationship. The relationship must be kept professional to avoid problems.
Patricia

Hi Ted,
Your thoughts are identical to mine! Wait until after the student graduates to befriend them. Students need role models to look up to while in school, not another friend.
Patricia

Hi Ruth,
That's right! The student/instructor relationship should be kept strictly professional.
Patricia

Instructors cannot be buddies with their students because this could cause personal problems and lack of respect.

It helps to maintain that respect of an instructor verse being a friend with no respect.

Hi Dana,
That's right, as the instructor you should lead by example.
Patricia

Hi Michelle,
I concur! Boudaries must be set, and students need to fully understand that they can not cross the line.
Patricia

I have found I can maintain a professional distance from my students and still develop & cultivate a professional instructor rapport to help direct & guide their learning. My students don't need another pal or buddy; they need an instructor to provide a safe, consistant evironment where learning can occur.
After they graduate & obtain their professional license, I will be proud to be their colleague.

It is professionalism plan and simple. My rule is that I will be friendly towards my studetns not friends with my students. This is a professional line that you just do not cross. You risk looseing respect and integrity.

To maintain and manage a professional, productive, and positive learning environment it is important to establish a professional image with your student. Treating each student with the same respect and practicing what you preach will faciliate a healthy learning environment.

Hi Brant,
Absolutely, keeping a distant is good for both the student and instructor; each person knows their role.
Patricia

Hi Rick,
I concur! The tools that are available to connenct with people can certainly by used to your advantage if you do not abuse them.
Patricia

It is important to maintain a professional distance from students because the wrong message may be displayed. It may also impair the instructor's judgement on various situations.

Hi Marion,
Students need role models to look up to. Believe it or not, we are some of our students only role model.
Patricia

Hi Randall,
I agree! We should be the professional that we want our students to become.
Patricia

students do use you as a role model

Students need to be kept on a professional level, because students need to view the instructor as a role model.

Hi Shawn,
I concur! Putting your career in jeapordy is not worth it just because you want to befriend a student. I have known of instructors to lose their career due to befriending students.
Patricia

It is a reflection of the profession that the students aspire to be in and the instructor is the first impression and in some instances the only impression of what they have to look forward to.
