If you can put the emotion aside the better you will think out a process for resolution. Let your heart and mind be your conscience. This will always direct you with what is right.

I usually try to focus on the task at hand and displace the emotion. It helps to keep the task the priority and not the the personal feelings get in the way of the judgement.

I agree. Exercise and my faith helps me with stress. Also, I have found that by changing my response to a stressful situation makes it easier to deal with...knowing the things that are in my control and those that are not. And, I make a point to 'recharge my batteries'. That way, I am more prepared to deal with everyday stressful situations.

I actually used the techniques discussed in this lesson about just stop and take several deep breathes when a new project was not working out, and the part about going and getting the information rather than wondering what the result was going to be .

It is always good to have the release strategies for the tough moments. Each of us may have different ways of doing this but what ever works is healthy unless the release is unlawful, chemically inappropriate or morally wrong.

I usually try to take a minute for myself and breathe when things start to overwhelm me throughout the week. Other times I think of my family and the many qwerky things that they do, it definately makes me laugh allowing me to refocus my energies and move on. But my major release of stress is through physical activity (hockey). It helps me release unwanted stress quickly and efficiently. Afterwards I feel refreshed, like I have a clean slate ready to start the cycle of life again.

Leisure activity is always good. Somtimes this activity will suffice for all the ingredients we have disussed. The ability to get away or step back for rejuvenation is always good.

Thank you for sharing your stress reducers. I believe it is important to point out you allow for the physical, emotional, and spiritual outlets for stress. Very good. Some may only focus on one venue.

As a health nut, might I suggest a few long slow perhaps weekend activity as well....get more enjoyment out of life :)

My father used to say the sun will come up tomorrow no matter what. This is kind of what you are saying. Time keeps moving so all we can do is determine how we are going to live with our daily challenges. We can make the best of the worst situations.

I try to put it in perspective, and relate whatever is going on to really, really bad things... such as being in a combat zone. I figure, "hey, at least there aren't bombs going off outside, and I'n not on my way to a refugee camp". That usually makes me realize that I need to relax and get over it.

Support and the ability to step back seems to always give us a better perspective on issues and making good decisions. Your ability to recognize the times when you need to do this will be important to keep your sanity in tough situations.

Walk away from my desk and visit my students and instructors assists me the greatest way.
It really places problems in perspective and give you a chance to relax with human contact.

I applaud your optimistic view. This attitude will definitely motivate people to achieve their goals.

I usually am on the helping end. I have a obtimistic view on things so reminding the person that is under the stress and pointingout the good parts to what is happening usually shows the glass half full rather than empty

Having outside interest is a good thing for mental relaxation. Each of us has activity that we enjoy and when we resort to it we bring down the emotion of bad stress.

I keep a 16 grid sudoku puzzel handy and work on it, and I repair tools and things around the house to reduce stress.

This is like take an aspirin and call me in the morning. I hope it has a long lasting affect.

I have helped others by telling them to get a drink of ice water and cool off.

I believe tht when you are under stress, that is not the time to stretch yourself. It is better to duck than to get hit by a hardball.

From Barry Benjamin
