for me the best way for handling workplace stress is put it in the context of:
Do I understand what the job requires?
Do I know waht the boss expects?
I know I have the correct skills, so then I just do the best job that I can.
THe rest is beyond my control, so let the Execs worry abuot those aspects.
You are so correct. Taking personal time to communicate with the Holy Spirit is the best relaxation tool and makes you realize that work is not in control-God is.
For others, through attentive listening to them vent, gently trying to show them a positive side of the situation, encouraging them, and trying to find some humor in the situation.
For myself - I try to get away to a quiet place so I can think objectively, I do meditation, Yoga, I try to evaluate a situation to see if it really concerns me or in what manner it concerns me and then I can either put it to rest or decide a plan of action to try to rememdiate the situation.
It is always good to organize yourself. When you can see claarly your direction the stress is relieved. You have a great start along with good stress management techniques.
I have found the best way for me to reduce stress is to prioritize. I am a list maker. I have found that the 15 to 20 minutes I spend making and reorganizing my “to do†list at the beginning of each day saves me hours of worry and wasted time and it also keeps me from getting overwhelmed. I not only rank my task from biggest to smallest or from most important to least important, I also list first what has to be done today and what can wait.
The best way that I've found to deal with workplace stress is to discuss the stress related issues with my co-workers. Whether an individual has an input or our team has a whole comes up with a plan to resolve or reduce the stressor, working together helps.
Exercise is important but we need to lead a balanced life. Components of this balance are exercise or physical activity, mental activity and spiritual rejuvenation. Each of these are very important.
Talk, exchange thoughts, keep an open mind. EXERCISE!!! Nothing is better that exercising every day. If you're getting to "wound around the axel", take a break, take a walk. Breath, relax, clear your mind. Think of pleasant thoughts.
Some of the best ways i have learned to deal with stress is talk it out with someone that can help you with the concern. When i leave work for the day i leave work at work, i have about an hour drive home just to wind down which is nice to have. Then when i am home i deal with the personal matters that may arise. this has helped me tremendously to keep my stress levels at a minimum.
I think you find it beneficial to get some solitude to gather your thoughts. Your method prepares you for the rigors of the day.
I live far ouside of town so I take my ATV early in the morning before work and find a quiet place in the desert to sit and collect my thoughts. I also find that a long walk by myself is beneficial. I can use that technique at work by taking a walk around the campus.
Laughther and a great attitude can avert bad moods and high stress. We can mentor a good attitude as we handle our stress in a positive way. Thinking is clearer with a happy outlook.
Smile that to me is a great way to relieve stress. If others smile back it can make me happy inside and that will relax me.There are so many people that never smile and I believe that will bring down anyone around them so just smile.
Organization is very important about making success in business and with your employees. Availability has to be a priority for you. People respect and depend on your leadership and it is a must have each of them feel like they are a stakeholder in the mission.
You are so correct with your attitude. Keeping an optimistic view will always help with stress relief. My friend the coach at Butler University doesn't focus on what is wrong but on how do we improve and this is a good lesson in stress managment. Outlook is brighter when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it is dim but it is there. What lights can you see and then share them with your fellow employees.
For workers everywhere, the troubled economy may feel like an emotional roller coaster. "Layoffs" and "budget cuts" have become bywords in the workplace, and the result is increased fear, uncertainty, and higher levels of stress. Since job and workplace stress grow in times of economic crisis, it’s important to learn new and better ways of coping with the pressure. The ability to manage stress in the workplace can make the difference between success or failure on the job. Your emotions are contagious, and stress has an impact on the quality of your interactions with others. The better you are at managing your own stress, the more you'll positively affect those around you and the less other people's stress will negatively affect you.
We need to know what buttons we can push to reduce the stress of our daily lives. Music is often a good relaxing practice if you can resort to this when needed. It is also important to set up a balanced day with good exercise, mental activity and spiritual awareness. How you do this depends on each individual.
I usually need to listen to music in order to gather my thoughts and rethink certain things out before performing them. Also I make sure that my co-workers know that I'm always available to talk since we are each others support systems.
Very I treating philosophy! I do agree with you about loving your job can reduce stress. It is sad how many people actually don't like their job. Good planning and organization is the additional layers.
Finding personal space under the roof of your employment is impossible at best. For most, work is the main source of stress in their life. I've found a position with less pay and more time to be me, with co-workers I enjoy to be very rewarding. If you dont enjoy the job for whatever reason you are allways free to change the situation. There is nothing keeping you but your own guilt. Give up whatever material items that are making you financially locked into keeping that job. The car or house you love so much does not love you! Not to say that children cannot complicate this scenario, so make an intelligent, planned decision to better your life. I've found comfort in befriending the items in daily life that I most feared; no more fear, only confidence. Such as Math, traffic and leg workouts! It is not to say my life is stress free. I'm far from it, as I too have completed this lesson. However, "It is not until we have lost everything that we are truely free." (Brad Pitt, The Fight Club, 2000)
