Yes, it is very important that the orientation sesions provide studentd with information about school falcilities, introduce the Director of the school, the Dean as well as the director of of all the programs of study that are offered in the institution. Also information about attendace and compliance with student's obligations. It is important to present them all the services offer such as Learning Resourse center, career services and staf available to help students.
Brian, that's funny you mentioned "if there is a smoking area desginated" because in the near future most campus will be designated as non smoking campuses and the policy will be listed in the student handbook, where they will be required to sign stating they have accepted and will adhere to the rules and policies on that campus.
we try to give new students a very comprehensive orientation. We make id cards, introduce them to program directors, student services, career services, and anyone else they will encounter as a student. We also go back over important program information again so that before they start they are clear on expectations and outcomes.
Keisher,
Thank you for your post. Orientation alleviates some fears or nervousness on their first day. It gets them off to a good start.
Lindsay,
Orientation is the getting ready for school part. They need to know where to go, what to expect, where to park, who to talk to, where the bathrooms are, etc.
We don't have a real orientation at our institution which I believe is a disservice to our students. All we have is about a 20 minute registration that they must attend to make sure everything is good with Financial Aid and to register for their classes. I think it would be extremely beneficial for our students to have an orientation where they see where their classrooms are and are able to meet with important people.
Yes to elaborate further orientation student's get to meet the program chairs. In addition, the students will also know about the resourses available to them. Also take their picture for their student ID. Moreover, they will get to have a printed copy of their schedule if it is available. Finally they get to network with other reps as well as other classmates that maybe in the same program.
It gives them firmilularity in the school, school layout, rules & regulations of your school, meet the staff, see where classes are, student lounge, parking, library location & hours, etc. It gets the student comfortable before the first day.
Very important step in the enrollment process.
It gives the student a better understanding of what to expect, and what is expected of them.
We have orientation in one day. During this orietation, the students will meet all of the instructors. We split up the date into catorgories, in which different instructors will go over different things. That way every student knows the staff and will also feel comfortable going to them for questions or concerns.
Dale,
It gets the students off to a great start.
Brian,
Orientation gives the student the important information to start their educational experience with your college.
Christopher,
Orientation is the hand-off from Admissions to Education. We must work together.
It is an important time because they will learn not only aboutthe staff and who they need to seek out, but it will also allow tem to understand the normal policies and procedures. Like where to park, where the entrance is, if there is a smoking area designated.
Orientation is a key component to helping the student adjust to their new educational environment.
yes you are right they get chance to meet other student and to no where class roon are
