I agree, employees should not open themselves up to any possible problems and/or lawsuits.

I feel it is great for the yonger generation....but I find.... 30yrs plus are not that computer savy....

I like looking at Facebook pages of businesses, as I can find out a lot of details quickly: location, phone number, a map, and in some cases a menu or other pertinent info. We have strict rules at our school re: socialization with students. Having a student as a friend on Facebook, can create a conflict of interest and is against the rules of our school. I would like to see more businesses have their own page as another form of advertising.

We do not. Yet, I believe some from of marketing on these sites are extremly beneficial. I think familiarity with the name of an institution helps in recruiting. I don't think agents should friend prospective students, but there are a number of ways to communicate with people without "friending."

Example: A Twitter feed that updates students and prospective students on upcoming events or recruiting activities.

From my understanding, my school does not use social networking sites as marketing tools. But I think it would be a good source.

Our school has a strict policy regarding socializing with students. We are encouraged to maintain a professional relationship. If I know someone personally, and in conversation, or by email let them know where I am working, I can consider them as a personally developed lead for admission.

Social networking plays a HUGE role in communications with prospective students. I am unsure of the marketing plan at this time.

We have been told that the use of social networking wasnt allowed. I was told that I was not allowed to use any personal outlet.

Social networking has tremendously changed communication with students. It is a great tool for students to discuss and share info, from everything to sharing a ride to school, to current industry news and information. My school does have a marketing plan that includes social networking and it's fabulous!

Social networking has a tremendous impact on generating our school and what we have to offer. I think in a short amount of time we have used the social network to our advantage.

Yes we have one, but what its has done mostly is created an awarness of the school and what we represent.

Our company does have a facebook page. I think that it is important to utilize popular means for advertising and this is a huge one. It is definitely important as well on a personal level to keep work professional and seperate from an individual's (agent's) private life.

Social Networking has become the new preferred media for most people 30 or under. There are many in the 30-50 range that do participate, but statistically there is a vast drop off. Our university makes use of many marketing areas targeted torwards the demographics we are trying to reach. Social media is one of them.

Social networking has become a huge part of our society. Company's realize this and they have changed how they advertise their company.

Not that i know of at my school, have we used the social networking sites for potential students. I think thats something the marketing department would probably look into at my school.

Facebook and Google messaging have become integral points of contact for my students. Not only through the schools site but being able to text message me keeps me in constant contact with the student and their individual needs.

My school does not allow us to use social networking

The growth of social networking sites has greatly impacted our communication with prospective students. We work hard to conect with them through these sites. We have an active marketing plan for social networking sites.

I agree that it is unprofessional to "friend" a potential student or a current student on our private accounts, but as a recent college graduate, this is a wonderful advertising tool. Students tend to check their Facebook accounts more frequently than their own email accounts. This is a great way to spread the word fast about upcoming events and newly approved programs.

Social Networking sites have several advantages when it comes to the communication with prospective students. Social Networking sites are typically geared towards the younger demographic, but even this is changing. This allows for a familiar outlet for prospective students, as well as rapid communication.
