Social networking has had an impact on all communication in general, including that with prospective students. Our school does have a Facebook page as well as a Twitter account. These sites allow the school to communicate with current and prospective students and put out information on events at the school.
I believe that social networking has created a direct one-to-one marketing boom for colleges and prospective students. Students today live on social networking sites.
We are starting a brand new campus. We did discuss the possibility of creating a facebook page for our school. I think that it would be a great way to create awareness and to reach students.
I beleive that social networking has a huge impact on communications with our prospective students.
Advertisement is done on some social networking sites.
I believe that social networking sites are necessary, and my school does includes such sites.
The popularity of social networking sites are becoming a great resource for students and well as schools. When a school has a Facebook page, students are able to communicate with each other (without giving out too much personal information). It is also a great way to connect with student and facility on upcoming events.
I think that our communications with students would be much more effective if we had more options than telephone and email. I would be a little concerned with social media like Facebook for compliance reasons but texting would be a very useful way to communicate.
Based on the training information policies, an agent is not allowed to speak with an individual about their school if the individual is currently enrolled elsewhere.
I think it has made communication better between students especailly those enrolled in online programs. I think a lot of students make connections with eachother through the course discussions and then take it to the next level with social media. Our school has made moves into the social media.
We do have a website which could be expanded to reach alumni all over the country looking for jobs. I believe posting new articles about our industry and regulations would also be helpful and entered each month by careerservices and/or student services.
I don't know how effective Facebook would be to increase enrollment. Maybe industry blogs could be used. Our School Director makes these decisions.
I believe the SN sights are growing quickly in popularity and see them as another medium in which to communicate with the student. Agents should be careful in the content they use and the tone they establish through SN sights. The agent should be aware that their communications are not just being received by the intended audience.
Schools cannot use social media in a effective way to market to students...however I do believe that is an effective way for students to communicate and opens doors to current students networking and communicating with Alumni.
Yes, and I believe it is an integral element to our marketing strategy to stay current with media trends. College age students are more likely to be involved in developing technologies such as social networking and social media sites. I would say few read the newspaper or listen to public radio anymore with the advent of XM radio and programs like Pandora. I was listening to that the other day when a commercial for my school played.
I have seen success with my school in using Facebook as a tool for already-enrolled students to interact with and get to know each other, but I do not think it would be appropriate to be friends with my students on Facebook personally. There is a line that I do not cross where I separate work and personal life. I would not want the students I work with on a professional level to have access to my personal photos and other things.
I agree with you. It is the communication tool of the future. I communicate more with my son in college through facebook than with any other means.
Our school does not have a Facebook, Twitter or any other kind of social media account. I personally do, but I do not mention my employment with the school in any way. It would like to see us develop a Facebook page, but that decision has not been made, yet. Robert Allison stated in a reply "Unfortunately social sites have made people less sensitive in their communications. We don't see people as human beings as much on the computer as we do in person." That is well put and is probably why some people do not venture into social media sites.
Social networking allows students to communicate about their classes and events that may be taking place at the school. Since most students have access to the internet, social networking is a good tool for students to use to increase communication with others enrolled in their classes. Also, social networking can help create and build friendships with others, which can make the whole college experience more enjoyable.
I honestly feel that social networking is an opportunity for growth. As of right now, I dont believe our school utilizes social networking. Students/adults are wanting answers more quickly therefore social networking should be an option to communicate!
It has changed how everyone communicates, not just students. However, I agree with many other postings. I do not think it should be utilized directly by agents/reps to communicate with their students. If a school wants to create their own site, and maintain general communication with prospective and current students about upcoming events, etc. that is fine. I don't think we, as reps, should be actively "friending" our prosepctive students.
