I just let the student know that i don't know about how the other school works but i can explain how we work for them.
My main position regarding comparison with other institutions is to asert limited knowledge of their programs and practices. I can't provide comparisons without substanial , factual knowledge. I also insist that prospects do their own research in this process.
Simply treat the student as if you wanted to be treated or imagine someone you care about in their place.
Concentrate on our Schools strengths. Encourage the student to research other schools to make an appropriate comparison.
Make sure the student does his/her own research regarding schools; emphasize searching for the best fit for a potential career path
Listen to the perspective student. Once I acknowledge the information give, I discuses what we have and how we handle thing here at ITT.
I always guide the student to check with their chamber of commerce to see if they might have some statistics for them. They do not provide me with that kind of information.
I think it is important to focus on your school and the different features your school has. Talking about competitors makes you sound bitter and cheap at times. There are alot of quality schools out there but you want to focus on your school and tell the student of what the school can offer.
Allow students to relay to the recruiter what is important to the school and as recruiters listening to the student and allowing them to feel like you care about their situation is important
Do not ever talk bad about another school or college. I am proud that our Director of Admissions has trained this team to always speak the truth, be up front on all topics and remember to honor you words. Applicants can see through someone who is coming accross as someone who is just trying to make a number. We really do take pride in seeing our students start finish and graduate. This is their new fresh start and we are proud to be a part of it.
I always let the student know that there are many good schools and the most important thing is that they find the best fit for them. My job is to inform them about my school so that they can make the comparison, and then we get back to the discussion of their ideal learning environment.
It is important to point out the highlights of your school and let the students decide...I always tell students to make sure they do their research.
