"Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover"

The above quote is exactly what came to mind after reading this article!

I totally agree with this quote. It is a quote you can use just about everywhere. We are all different and just need to accept what we have and don't have or who we are and we aren't. Great quote!

Ellis,
You are right about that. Thirty years ago, there was a PR campaign put on by someone (maybe Easter Seals?) that had posters and TV commercials that touted, "Now is the best time to have Cerebral Palsy." The idea was that technology and advancements made for a better quality of life for people with CP than could even have been imagined before. If that were true 30 years ago, can you imagine how much more is available now?!?

I have worked with many who have visible disabilities. I am always amazed how much can be done. We see so many new inventions that can add quality to their lives.

Michael,
Agreed. What is that old saying about "jumping to conclusions rarely leads to happy landings!"?

I agree totally. Sometimes the students that may at first come off as someone you don't think will do good with the online format can be your best students. I've been tricked a few times. Give everyone the same respect and chance and a lot of people will surprise you.

Cindee,
My daughter has cerebral palsy, uses a motorized wheelchair, and has very little recognizable speech (she signs for expressive communication). When she was little, I always maintained that my biggest concern is that I think the kid is smarter than I am. Now that she is grown up, I KNOW she is smarter that I am (and she'll tell you that, too!) GRIN

You often find that what is under the cover far exceeds any false conceptions formed with the initial assessment.
