Yes, we take student satisfaction survey findings very seriously. We're taking the feedback from students into consideration when we work on the tutoring schedule or on the agenda for our next orientation meeting.

How effective are these practices? Have any of them influenced you directly?

They provide end of course student surveys. We attempt to monitor
instructors twice per year. We also employ academic advisors and the chair has an open door policy.

Our school uses an Student Survey form and offer open door policy for the students to access administration staff.

The instructors teach to their fullest. They go beyond being a instructor and form some type of friendship.

During orientation we go over what is expected of them as well as what they can expect. There is a questions and answer session. We also have student satisfaction surveys and teacher evaluations (by students).

Do you mean academic expectations or institutional expectations? We have students complete an end of course survey...on a voluntary basis. This deals mostly with academic expectations. Institutionally, I have no idea how we determine this issue.

My institution makes sure that students are well informed about class requirements. The information about the Academic Success Center including tutoring, faculty office hours, advising housing, career survices available to them on the student portal. The Student satisfaction servey data is collected and analyzed every quarter. The results are communicated to all staff and faculty and the appropriate improvements are done.

As student service director I make sure I introduce myself to the freshmen students, give them a brief synopsis of who I am and what I do. I let them know that I am there to help them in anyway I can to be successful. I counsel, advise, reprimand when necessary and investigate when needed. Fortunately, most of my students feel comfortable talking to me about their personal issues which gives me an edge when trying to avoid drops. Good customer service skills is also a great help when dealing with the students.

We also implement student surveys at the end of each course and they are tracked and any questions are answered, but I think we are still over promising in our recruiting which makes it very difficult to assess the students expectations early in the course. I try very hard to meet what I believe should be their expectations, but when some students have unrealistic expectations either because they have misintyerpretted the goals of our training or because someone promised more than we can deliver it makes it very hard.

I believe we do a great job delivering an education to the students who has realistic career goals, and for those students we often overdeliver on their expectations, but for those with unrealistic goals or where false promises have been made it's very difficult. We sometimes have to work with a student one on one to attempt to coach them on what their career goals should be based on what we are able to deliver. Most of the students have dreams but some have a difficult time uerstanding that achieving those dreams is a slow step by step process, starting with a good education, then upward career moves from an entry level job.

The support from your em's and from other instructors is fantastic....the variety of talent in the instructors is like having an online libary of info.....this abundance teaching skills makes the students expectations much easier to attain and satisfy.....especially for the new instructors...GREAT INSTRUCTOR SUPPORT...This institute has created a great atmosphere for instructor support which benefits the students....

Long term expectations are tough for entering students. Generally they really don't have a good understanding about the opportunities - directly and indirectly - related to their chosen field. Hopefully, that awareness is part of the process of developing skills.

Do the career services people at your college get involved with students early in the program to help them focus on realistic career objectives?

We understand what our purpose is here, and we also know what the goal is we need to reach at the end of a course, But,sometimes it hard to understand what a particular student expectations are, what they were told, where they want be in 2years,5 years Etc. Even If we ask as they introduce themselves some are very shy and say minimal about there long term goals.
Myself.. Well I try to be very involved all my students to get a better feel and understanding of them.

How are the student services surveys done? Are they part of the instructor evaluation or done separately/differently? Do you do any online surveys? Are the student services surveys anonymous? What happens with the results?

Our education department has the usual instructor evaluation given on the last day of the course. Our student services department surveys twice per year to see how they are doing in the student’s eyes. There has always been debate wondering if there is a better way. Accreditation regulations say they have to do it. Current conditions, both economic and personal, will vary the results.

We have the students fill out a questionair about the course and how ther think it was on all levals.

Who does the mid-course review? What happens after the review? What sort of prescriptions are written?

Currently we have observations being preformed and some courses do a mid-course review, and that is were the committment of the some instructors comes into play.It is not mandatory to do a mid-course review,so if it is not mandatory it is the impression of some then I am not doing it.
The next step our institution has been working on, is using one on one meetings between the staff and management to create a prescription that can work on these areas. This creates ownership and accountability for everyone, with the staff making their own prescription, such as the mid- course review,to give the proper expectation for the student and to satisfy their needs.

At the end of each course students are given an evaluation/survey to rate and comment on their overall experience. This gives students a chance to share their opinions whether they are good or bad.

our institute performs student surveys to our students after completing a certain percentage of the program to make those type of assessments.
