Syllabus

A syllabus helps student lock in the logistics of a course. As instructiors we should also give them the space and place to learn with the social and emotional challenges they face.

BpApSC

BpApSC - Acronym for blog :)

Best practices: I look for current information on the content and epose, give experiences and educate thereafter!

Action plans: Every term I learn who my students are and from day one take one week at a time and fine tune the class to make content accessible with my checklists and tweaked palns

Successes: By tweaking as per class culture students tend to be successful and complete class with with the class goals in mind

Challenges: technology!

ED 101

Great guidance for first time teachers.

Action Plan: Reflective Listening

When a student asks a question, an instructor's automatic reflex is to provide a response. To be the most effective instrucor, one of the strategies I have learned from this course is to practice reflective listening. Reflective listening is a communication strategy that can enhance instructor's understanding of what the student is saying and reflecting it back. I remember "reflection" as one of the therapeutic communication techniques that we should employ with our patients. I have not considered it a technique to apply to my students. But it has to be a conscious effort to do so, because one has… >>>

what works for me

After the 1st day of a new group of students, you should should always approach each day with a mental plan of how to reach the days objective. You should always have a plan "B" just in case. Remember you are the guide and must steer the daily lesson to keep it within the "white lines" of the daily objective. Don't be scared to step on the "white line" once in a while to keep the students engaged. At the end of the course or semester the real goal is the students learning the material. the rest will usually take… >>>

action plans

Im grateful for the acton plans given ,the material overall was very detained and insightful. I appeciate the  strategies and implementation provided to help guide the instructor on how to help a student whom is falling behind with course material and understanding.

Personal Action Plan

Good Afternoon Everyone

I just completed the ED101, I thought it was very informative and will definitely prepare me for the structure and the sequencing necessary to start a successful new and future cohorts within my field with great success.  I feel sometimes for myself I look for approval in the wrong places.  Now that Ihave reviewed the material necessary for success, my approval will be based on consistency.  Creating a successful script for professionalism with taking the necessary steps to a good syllabus , recognizing and adjusting my instruction to incorporate the  different learning  skill sets styles.  I feel… >>>

Classroom

'Instructors need to be proficient in a wide variety of areas . . . .' was effectively and effeciently presented in ED101

Let us capture students' attention from the start of each class

The only stupid question from students is the question they do not ask. Emotional and social intelligence is a powerful philosophy to incorporate in teaching.

ed 114

This is a good piggy back class to ed 103.  I began using wait times and redirections as a part of that class.  It still takes practice though.  during the lectures I have incorporated this style of questioning, i have had very good outcomes, and students are energized when they leave class (which is often at 10 pm.)  I am planning on asking my assistants to track my questions over the next two weeks to see how  often I am using open or closed ended questions.  I would assume that in some classes, with beginners, i use more closed.  Will… >>>

Positive Teaching

This teaching education help me to find more ideas and effective ways to deliver important material. Setting up for success is very important and I appreciate the extra input.

Flipped Classroom

What an interesting idea.  I can already see potential just in utilizing pre-recorded lectures. Not having to lecture in a hands-on learning class, imagine the possibilities.  The challenge now is which class to flip, and how to make students, oops, I mean shareholders, accountable.   Knowing that students have a tendency not to do homework, no matter how simple it is, that will be the real dilemma.

Found two good books "Flipping 2.0" by Jason Bretzmann and "The flipped classroom" by Jackie Gerstein, Ed.D

critical thinking process

This can be quite the challenging course.  In education and business today critical thinking is a buzz word, but I know that until now, I did not truly know what critical thinking entailed.

It is important to note that this class confirms that many students feel entitled to an education, but have little experience, and there fore little desire to be challenged.  I appreciate that  the information has given me new ways to question my students and also new ways to make sure my information comes across s purposeful and applicable.

Well organized and effective

Training covers a lot of detailed material that can be easily overlooked.  Take notes and keep focused.  Treat the course like you expect your students to treat your courses.

Effective Teaching Strategies

This course was very informative. It had material and content that is useful to any new instructor or one with years of experience.

i look forward to taking other courses with MaxKnowledge and review many of the responses in the chat.

Thank you MacKnowledge!!!

Instructional Delivery

As a new instructor, I have been learning alot and am grateful for this course.  Overall, it is challenging for me to develop strategies that maintain students' intrests and allows variety.   I have learned that I need to ensure I move around the room more and not just stand a the podium. Upon reflecting on the past, walking around the room was effective in addition to maintaining eye contact with different students.  I have had a tendency to focus on some students and other times all students.  I needed to realize through these courses that I need to always… >>>

Flipped classroom

I'm halfway there but also not convinced I want to go further. In my diversity class, the students read the content and respond to a discussion question online before class and I facilitate further discussion and offer other experiences such as short videos in class to further the conversation. This way they come in with basic content and can get to the deeper discussion. In my math class I am using an AI system that adapts to the student. I teach the content and we practice in class and then their homework opens up individually based on what they do… >>>

Action plan for accelerated learning

This course was particularly well done and I have a number of action points. It verified that my instinct to dislike the barren walls of my room is correct even with adult learners. I am going to work on organizing and decorating that space more purposefully. I also am purchasing a laser pointer which I've intended to do but will accomplish now. I also want to look up the references for interactive activities and see which ones might enhance my courses.

Best practices

I will commit to the use of logistics and agenda posters in a live classroom.
