Best practices

Instructional supports the learner in order to be successful.  I will contistently use a structured outline that shows students the key points that will be covered in class that will aid in note taking.

Best practices

I will be reviewing all my quizzes and exams both formative and summative and evaluate if they meet the criteria learned from the course to better meet the student learning.

Course Reflections

I learned some new things to put into action , especially about learning styles and adult learning.

Brand new instructor

I am excited to try to use a lively way to begin my courses. I plan on using name tags for class and incorporate case studies as well into daily class to avoid lecturing extensively

Questions

It was interesting to learn all of the names of the types of questions I use. I favor the closed ones more than open ones, so have to practice using more open questions.

Share your wisdom, best practices, action plans, successes and challenges!

I adapted based on my students learning needs. I use a combination of lecure, videos, and games.

Teaching Defined!

I felt like I was taking a sociology class about the world of teachers and learners!

It was interesting to learn all the definitions of different types of lectures, learning and the teachers role in the classroom.

I took notes like I was in high school!  Some of this material was not new to me, but the way it was presented is how I want to present material for my classes.  The course was demonstrating what it was teaching the entire tine.

I feel I learned in every way described!

ED103

some of the challenges i experience when i teach is to stay on track. My method usually tends to go back and forward.

ED 103 Action Plan

I plan to immediately apply what I learned in ED 103 to two new classes I am developing for my institution.

New instructor in training

It has been a bit overwhelming to "learn how to be a teacher."  I am enjoying everything I am learning and look forward to putting it into practice soon.

Active Learning

I do love the Ideas in this course.  I did use activities like these in a recent course I taught.  This course re-inforces how much more students learn when actively invloved.

I only noticed students sleeping or bored during typical lecture portions of my course, so I worked on as much active learning as Possible!

I enjoyed my class and I think students not only learned, but enjoyed and retained the information.

Get start!

This course is very helpful when starting a new session or teaching new students.

Lecture, then discuss

I've learned that lecturing for 15-20 minutes, then discussing with the students about it was more effective.

Adding authentic assessments to course

I will incorporate discussions and have student perform interviews to incorporate more of Fink's taxonomy like  the human dimension and student self-refelction.

Reflection on instructional delivery

After doing this lesson I plan to go back to the practice of writing pre-planned questions in alignment with learning objectives or outcomes.  I did this at the associate degree level but not at the university level at all times.  When I am assigned a consistent course I have time to thoughtfully research and process what is the best question to ask.

ED 101 Self-reflective action plan

Altlhough this information was from prior knowledge and implementation, I plan to create instructional delivery plans for the established content into 15 minutes sections of information.  I will continue to use Socratic questioning of students which facilitates an i nteractive lecture format. I do not like using the lecture but I do not lecture.  I create a story to explore focused on the nursing process.

Getting to class on time

I Am usually one of the people who is arriving to work at the time i am supposed to be starting. Every since ive become a barber, I have keeped a wild schedual. i plan on getting myself into a rotine at home sthat will allow me to be more organized and better with my time

Flipped Classroom

After taking the course, I understand better what is meant by the flipped classroom and have ideas about where to try it. I would love to do this with our Animal Tech 1 class which teaches a lot of hands-on skills. That way we could focus on that portion more in class and have a really solid foundation going forward.

Balance

I have found in my 20 year career that having balance in your life is the most successful part of being a teacher.  Either doing too little or doing too much can be a detriment to your own health and psychological well being.  Make sure that when you teach that you take time out each week to exercise, play a musical instrument, joing a gym, or do whatever keeps you going.

Good Luck!

First Time Instructor

Eager to learn techniques on how to develop my personal instructional style. I like the idea of developing a personal plan for professional development. I would like to learn about this subject from experienced instructors.
