Eased the beginning stress of a 1st time instructor!

I was happy to see the variety of lecture and other delivery formats, but was expecting more diverese pedagogical techniques.  I would like to recommend Teaching for Learning: 101 Intentionally Designed Educational Activities to Put Students on the Path to Success by Major, Harris & Zakrajsek. It's a great book that not only contains various lecture methods but reading strategies, peer teaching, graphic organizers and more.   

I find that when you let students know that you care by asking how they are doing or just having a general conversation with them, they seem more relaxed and work harder in your classes.

The examples helped me understand it more.

This was a great course. Lots of useful information. Will apply this new knowledge in the class room setting.

I am new in my role as a full time instructor and coming from a clinical educator, these courses will help me add variety to my classes!  I currently utilize some of the Interactive Lectures and Case Study Lectures because I personally enjoy that type of learning and applicability but found the suggestions of 15 minute mini lectures and tree diagrams will be very useful for my planning and delivery as well!!!  Thank you!  

Using the strategies for the development of alternative assessment give a different view on student learning and retention. I plan to incorporate the concepts in the classroom to enhance learning. 

My core principle is that classrooms should be incitational.

After a frankly chaotic tri 1, one module has settled down and in my experience to date is running smoothly.

The ‘impressionistic’ nature of Stage 1’s holistic assessment, student-centred approach needs concrete resources and tools to make it work. I feel last tri ,good educational principles were sidelined in the rapid implementation of the program, and the student and staff suffered as a result.

Now we’ve mentally regrouped (and what champs we are) I’ve found the space to retain two key educational principles; scaffolding and explicit instruction. These are not… >>>

What I've learned to be successful is providing the rational at the begining of the course.  This will show them that they can be successful in the workforce by doing these techniques.

I would like to find new ways to provide students the information they need to think critically. It looks like I will need to use many different delivery methods. Has anyone found a good split of methods?

Establish and maintain a positive classroom community throughout the entire school year. Encourage respect for one another, the use of appropriate language, and pro-active social skills.

Remember, that discretion should be used when discussing the needs of the student with disabilities with others. A conversation with the student prior to any of the above strategies can determine how comfortable the student is with sharing information about his or her disabilities. This is a great way to assess true understanding and ability.

I will apply the new knowledge creating short lectures and adding activities during class. 

I time-to -time prepare a illustrated study guide for my student to foucus on the testing content

I like the mini lessons and will definitely try this teaching strategy. Maybe incorporate it with activities in between.

This is the most successful strategy to keep the students engaged & interactive

Every student has something of value to contribute to the class's learning journey. Taking time to know each student, their experiences and insights, pays off for the growth of everyone in the class.
