Power points in teaching

Power points can work very well in teaching how ever I think we really need to look over our power points in our curriculums and make notes for examples of what has been listed. Thise of us that have been in the field that we are teaching in will be the best examples. Susch as something that happened to us personally that made the issue better or not.

Classroom speakers or field trips

I have found to make a change of scenery really helps the student attitude in class. It shows them that what we are talking about in the work world is real. I have used police officers that are friends come in and talk about law and ethics or pharmacology with drugs. Also taken the students to tour an emergency room to see what it is like to work as a medical assistant in a controlled and uncontrolled atmosphere. They are amazed and really respect our opinions when we tell them something about what it is like in clinicals. I have found they tend to do better.

Technology Integration

Students should have technological resources available to them to help research materials needed to complete their course successfully.

Rationale of Course Structure

Students should be made aware of the reasoning for the objectives of their course outline.

Learning Objectives

Learning objectives should be both explained and written so students know what is expected of them.

Lesson Planning

From my experience, having a well thought out lesson plan incorporating time management for each day of instruction informs the students of what is expected of them and helps course content flow more smoothly from subject to subject.

Lesson plan formatting

I had a hard time at first when it came to putting my lesion plans together. Then I started to go over my old plans and make changes for the better. This has help to make my lessons very strong.

Lesson Plan

It was not until I started to us a lesion plan that, I could see a better outcome for my class. I always had a outline of what I was to teach, but a true lesion plan keeps me on track.

makeup exams

it is important to have in mind that you should be preparing another test for those students that were absent at the day of the test. taking off some points is another methods that could be used.

learning preferences

why it is so important to know the learning preferences of a student?

power points

It is important to keep information clear and interesting for the students when using power points presentations, thats why it is important to keep it short.

fields trips

what are the topics of the experience that the students can learn or gain from fields trips?

powerpoits

just want to say Powerpoint is very very help...

Assessments

The best tool to have when assessing students is a grading rubrics. Students need to know what content is being graded and what expectations are being graded. Usually the students will perform to your objectives.

Guest Speaker

Since I teach mainly at night it is very difficult to plan and execute many field trips, therefore, I use guest speakers in the business world to come to class to give insight as to what to expect in the real business world. I try to have about three speakers during a quarter maybe more from insurance, banking, manufacturing, mail-order, legal, law-enforcement, retailing, distribution, sales, and customer service. We also set up an activity where we sell food items and the students must please their cliental. This really has been fun because we have several cliental who are asked to be difficult.

Objectives should be measurable and known before lesson

I have found that if the students know what is expected during the lesson they will work hard to provide what is asked. Since I move from room to room sometimes I get tied up in my first class and get to my second class on time but not any sooner and I have not written an objective on the board or the PowerPoint isn't up, the students will ask what is the objective for today.

Reason for using the touch method when learning the Keyboard

I have found if the students know the rationale behind using a certain method to learn an item then the students will put forth twice as much effort when trying to learn subject. Students want to know how they will use what they are learning in their chosen career.

Knowing your students is a key component in lesson planning

In technical school I use "Tell me about yourself." I start off by telling them about myself and that I teach full-time in a high school setting, sponsor PBIS Team and FBLA.I also tell them that I have three grown children and six grandchildren. I also give the life history of my family which they can relate. Now I have each student tell about their families, where they work, job experience, high school from which they graduated, hobbies, interest, and what they have heard about the class. This helps me to plan subject content as well as to pace the class according the students abilities. I try to challenge every student by grouping--advance student with an not as experienced student. I also have extra sessions so students can have one-on-one attention if the need arises. The students can ask for these sessions by e-mail so other students do not know what is going on; however, every student in the class know they can ask for help through this media. I meet the students before class or after class, on Friday's and Saturdays. This seems to be all that is necessary to bring students to work that their fullest potential.
