Setting the tone and framework

Clear expectations and objective enable a student to visualize the effects and benefits of the course they are about to commence.

Implementing Active Learning

Student Access to Online Resources

I would love to give the flipped classroom a try, however many of my students do not have a computer and internet at home. Although they have access to resources on campus, this would surely give some even more a reason to slack and not participate. Are there any suggestions for students who have to come to campus to use the internet?

How often should I use CATS

asking too many questions

I have a student who asks too many questions-and not in a good way. I am starting to think she does this to manipulate and control the class. Any suggestions on how to trim the questions down?

Best ways to learn

sometimes it can be hard to teach to different students' learning styles when you are teaching a particular subject that may require more "hands on" learning.

Balance

In my opinion, one important differentiating factor that distinguishes a highly successful educator is his/her ability to balance rigorous standardized instruction with flexibility of customized delivery method. Often, instructional delivery is based on predefined goals and objectives for the course. The overall syllabus cannot be changed due to the curriculum or accreditation requirements, and textbooks and other resources are preselected. This may present a challenge, as the material may seem outdated, especially in the highly evolving field of technology. Additionally, the class overall skill-level may not be adequate when compared to the the list of prerequisites. With capability and willingness to balance, however, an instructor can successfully work within predefined constraints to adjust his/her methods and materials in order to deliver high quality instruction.

Different teaching styles

All instructors have different styles and there is always feedback. I think somebody must adjust the teaching style (sometimes that is hard) to what the feedback is showing. If after 2 or 3 terms/semesters you always get low feedback grades then it might be time to adjust. On the other hand if you get good reviews then you must be doing something correct but we have to remember that there is always time to improve

Probing Issues

I think probing is a great technique to guiding students to the correct answer but I also find it to be intimidating for students at times. How soon should you redirect the question to another student that may be experiencing this?
