Professional

Maintaining a proffesional attitude is sometimes a task that is extremely rare when you a student that test your patience.

Music in the classroom

Having back ground music in the class room always makes a better environment because it removes the stress of the activities. I have noticed that have 15 or 20 minutes of music the students do not even realize music is even playing. It is important to me to keep a relaxed environment because I teach electrical systems and students are scared of electricity.

Any recommendations for online assessments?

I am curious if anyone recommends good online quiz to find out what your learning style is.

Objectives

I prefer to use obejective tests in the beginning of each course and end with an essay test. I sell this to the students to help them realize that knowing the verbage in the first half of the course helps with student success in the last half of the course

open ended questions

The questions that allow students to really get involved are ones that are open ended. This gives the student opportunity to explore without judgment

AVK

for the auditory learner I use content as my motivation. For the visual learner I use multimedia and for the kinesthetic learner I use stories that they can relate to and feel

preparing lectures

We use PPTs for out lectures. I build pretty comprehensive Power Points covering all topics in the assignment utilizing both providded course materials and textbook materials as well as real-life examples. I blieve that this creates a good blend and reinforces learning from the text and course materials. How many of use remember the concept of "price elasticity of demand" simply by read a few pages from a text? I didn't! So I discuss the subject in detail and provide real-world examples. Ed

Hospitality evaluation...

By far the most difficult part of my job as an instructor is developing and maintaining valid, fair, reliable, repeatable methods for grading students in our Restaurant Guest Service class. It's a class where there is a small bit of knowledge that can be tested for via written exams but most of it is Skills Application on a daily basis and a working restaurant where the person in charge is always pulled in 6 directions is a difficult place to closely monitor students activities and mastery of the techniques and methods I teach. Can you give any feedback on this or ideas on how I can effectively evaluate a class of 15 students simultaneously while still performing the other demands of my job? Thanks in advance.

The technical words

in product ID using the two languages seems to be effective. Making it part of the test is even better and effective for the students to remember.

I

I was once an ADD... After I learned what it was and that it was up to me to pay attention, now I hight have to reread a page twice but now I can remember what I read if I want to... I can easely recognize a student with ADD, it helps me in my teaching, we have something in commum...

Delivery of Content can make or break the class.

Organize the class content so learning is not confusing.

No Ctrl Z for First Impressions

There is no control Z "undo" when it comes to first impressions. You must gain the students' trust within the first 20 minutes of the first class or you will find yourself trying to gain ground for the rest of the term.

People Don't Plan to Fail They Fail to Plan

When going on a road trip an itinerary or schedule of events is most necessary.

People Treat You How You Dress

If you want people pay attention to you and respect you on a professional level then you must dress the part and wear career minded clothing.

First Class Meeting

The first class meeting sets the tone of the entire course. Students have to get to know you as you set course expectations. After a brief introduction have an ice breaker to put everyone at ease. The ice breaker can set the tone for the personal introductions and a method to get to know your students. If you can make an association to remember the student's name, it help if you have a hard time with names. In your first meeting discuss all aspects of the learning process and potential ways to help the student learn the subject matter. Helpful hints in the first session let the students know you are there to assist in their learning process. Be positive as you start the new class and let the students know you are there to be the team coach working toward every completing the course satisfactory. The good provides a winning environment from the frist day of practice. Your first class is the first day of practice with each class another practice and each test a game which you want your students (team members) prepared to past.

Has a Instructor

Has an Instructor I feel it is my job to help students open and expand their minds so they may apply themselves to the best of their capability. Students only get out of something what they put into it; with a open mind they get that much more.

Leading by example

Leading as an instructor by example will be a challenging task to perform. Do the people in the field of education have suggestion as to how to perform as a role model at all time.

Planning

A good instructor should take approximately an hour plus to prepare for each class. While they may know the material class presentation may be different based on the student population. Review the the material prior to class enable the instructor to be better prepared to meet the challenges of the class. Failure to prepare ahead could result in materials being covered a second in error. The instructor is there to help the students develop an understanding of the course material failure to do so result in students not understanding information and course failure.

Online Introductions

I facilitate classes online, so I have to take a different approach when it comes to introductions. I'll provide my students with academic, professional and a bit of personal information about myself. They do not have the ability to speak in the platform we use, but they can communicate via text. I'll ask the class a series of basic questions they can all answer within the text pods. These questions have proven to be a good "ice breaker" and the students communicate more openly after this activity. I also encourage them all to post introductions within the class discussion board area. Are there any other methods you've found to be successful?

Building Rapport with Students

Building rapport with students is absolutely necessary to have a controlled classroom.
