Giving students the test answers and easy sign offs

Students should have to think and anylize subjects there learning by covering all subject matter for that course. if we just tell them the answer they dont learn very much , just about what they had to think about. when you ask the multiple diagnostic quest. opon them getting signed off it makes them think about how it works and how certain components could cause certain problems.therefore making sure they have learned the subject matter for that course

Prep Time

Great Instructors will prepare/organize their classroom prior to students arrival. Your students will easily recognize your thorough preparation or your lack therof.

Power Point

My school uses PPT presentations that are predictable, uniform from course to course and with few exceptions duotone. I believe that power Point can be an awesome tool and keep the attention of students who have grown up looking at a screen but it must authored in a way that the student doesn’t know what’s coming up next and must be full of color and when appropriate action. I can’t seem to make the case for change. Am I right in my thinking? Ken

What is the real definition of Curriculum?

Defining the word curriculum is no easy matter. Perhaps the most common defition derives from the word's Latin root, which means "racecourse". Indeed, for many students, instructors, and schools the word curriculum is a race to run, a series of obstacles or hurdles (subjects) to be passed. It is important to keep in mind that schools in Western civilization have been heavily influenced since the fourth century B.C by the philosophies of Plato and Aristotle and that the word curriculum has been used historically to describe the subjects taught during the classical period of Greek civilization. What is the real maening of the word curriculum for the twentieth century? If we have one.

Helping the ones with ADD

I have noticed being in a tech scool we seem to have a lot of students with ADD and they will admit to it. Most of them seem to be the ones who want to learn by doing it right away. So how do I keep these ones interested in what I am lecturing and while doing a demo. They seem to be the ones running around in the class because they can not stay still. It can be distracting to the class. I do not want to embarrass them and I do not want to let them do what they want either.

Instructor Motivation

Instructors who daily motivate their students will keep better retention, higher test scores, and will have happier students!

setting the right example

we preach customer service and fixed right first time, we need so set the example by giving the student the same with the material we teach

To know what to do

The first day is to let the students know what the course is all about. Because of that it is very important to let individuals know what they are in for, needless to say the first day is most important.

Getting to know you

The first day is always the nervous day for all people involved. Best way that I have found is to introduce yourself, and have others do the same. To get to know who is in your class.

Know what you are doing

As the day begins, as an instructor you must have the positive way to transfer the information in a possitive way, by knowing what you are doing.

We are all the same, but age

As an instructor we have to try to develop the younger minds. Once we figure out what we have to the type of students we need to instruct. Then we need to adjust our instruction for all different personalities.

Missing Their First Day of Class

I have notice there is always a few students who miss they first day. They end up being the ones who never go the extra mile or who just barley pass. How do you get through to these students. I tell them that if you start off with a bad imprssion or on the wrong foot you may never get caught up or you will be looked upon as the black sheep of the group. This is not only here at school but any were you go in life.

Firts Meeting and Impression

As several have said and I say it in class "First impression is a lasting impression". You do not know how you meet in the halls or any where but when you walk into a class or on a job forr the first time them you relize who they are. I make sure I am friendly and polite but I am making sure the standards are set. I do set a standard and show how we should act. I do state my successes in life and share the good and some of the bad as I state to all "I am not perfect and no one is, but with knowing this I can improve".

Times to question

I labeled this threa this because I realy do not know what else to call it. When in the lecture part of my class I do this often. I will ask the class about what I am getting ready to discuss. What does this do gets them in the mind thought of ok we are conna cover this and I may want to try and remember the key things he just asked. After the lecture we then go back and I will say "Hey remember the question I asked early about such and such who can know tell me the correct answer. You would be surprised at how this works. Then after i get a correct answer i ask a simple one word question. WHY.

Developing questions using a journalistic approach

When developing questions, it is important to ask... who, what, where, when, why and how? This is similar to the Socratic method which questions the depth of a topic.

Content

Course content is very important. The accuracy of the marital is most important with how fast the technical trade is changing. The engine of yesterday is so far in the past but still around. Because of systems changes and refining drivability issues with today’s fuel; we will need to make sure that we understand the manufacture and not guess what they are trying to do. The problem that I see the must are instructors guessing what is really going on with the systems and not really understanding. We are better off not saying anything at all or say I do not no, than to give the students a guess to mislead them.
