This was a great teaching module I have learned alot. A great module for learning to become a new instructor.

Supplemental Material

I find the best place for supplemental material is the internet. I like that I can pull it up anytime throughout class, and if I find that a concept is difficult for some students to understand, I can find other ways to present it by scanning web pages for alternative definitions or ideas on the concept. For my subject (English) there are also many sites with free worksheets and games that we can do together in class. It helps me identify weaknesses better.

Multiple use of delivery

I like to use multiple types of delivery, interactive demonstrations, lectures, student demonstrations, ect. This keeps the students interested in their day and focased on their class time which helps with them remembering what they have learned. It's not boreing them or myself and also brings up differant situations as no class is the same.

Day 1

On the first day you have to set the tone for the rest of that rotation. Show confidence and strenght, be respectful, and show that you are approachable.Being prepared, starting on time and just being relaxed helps the class settle into their enviroment. Then let yourself go and teach your passion. When they see how passionate you are they will feel more comfortable that you are the one to teach them.

questions for instructing

I love using this technique for my students. Being in the Motorcycle Mechanics field I find the students are forced to use something they aren't used to using, their brains. Seriously, they don't think they need to in a trade school and that is just not the case. Troubleshooting is all about logic and problem solving. Without using this part of the brain they are seriously limited in the field to mundane jobs. The greatest leaders of our industry that these students look up to as heros and idols are excellent at problem solving. That is how they got there. I try to pound this into their heads and stress problem solving is helpful in all levels, from making a decision on how to understand a concept or principle to dealing with a potential customer and even keeping your job. There is not a place in this world, that I know of, that is problem free and requires no solving skills. While we are not an istitution that teaches this, I find that the questioning technique, when used right, helps them to understand and hone the skills of greatness. Kevin Shockency

Picking up the pieces

One thing that I found challenging is to try to correct some less than desirable habbits that student come into class with. I guess when you follow the rules in your own class and in previouse classes the students are not held to the same standard. It is very dificult to get them back on track so you can get back to what they are there for. Some classes this is not an issue but others this takes up valuble time. What are some techniques that work?

Preparation for classes

When I am prepared for my class it just seems to make it easier to teach.

lending a hand

You can point students in the right directions but shouldn't do things for them. The student solving their own problems, with a little direction,is how they learn to grow.

Prep Time vs Procrastination

I have found so far in my carreer that early prep time makes life easier on not only myself but my students. Start early, take time to make up master copies of handouts, and print them up early. I find that if I plan ahead say at least 1 rotation and have a general amount of information pre printed, I just count what I need hand that out and refill my files.I can spend more time this way making sure all is accountable in my class room prior to class time. I have procrastinated a few time and it has come back haunt me, running around, not preped, and the students see this and feel that you are unorganized. They get the feeling that if he can't prepare for class how can he prepare me for my future. So I arrive early and stay late if needed and make sure my students needs are met. They are infact my customers and deserve the best possible education I can give, as it will be later a reflection of myself.

Confidence

Subjectively I believe that I have improved tremendously as an insructor since my debut approximately 2 years ago, and my student evaluations objectively bear that opinion out. I am certain that the primary reason for this improvement is the confidence and command the students see in me as an expert in what I am teaching, as well as, appearing comfortable in the role of captain of the classroom environment. I can directly attribute this sense of command to the preparation I put into developing and sticking to the syllabus, class goals, and objectives. The students feel they know the rules by the end of our first session together and trust that they will be treated fairly if they abide by the information that has been disseminated to them. Therefore, I have set the tone for a productive term during their first impression of the class, and that opinion endures throught the term unless I drop the ball and fail to hold up my end of the what I've told them to expect.

Getting student's and policies together

I feel as a instructor that school and class policies and enforcement of those policies is a must in any class room enviroment. I also think that if you cover in detail what is expected of the students on the first day of class and what the possible out come may be if policies are not followed, helps with class control there after. If you include your students in the discussion and possible affects if no rule's were in place at all, they come to the conclusion that rules are inplace for a reason and are more willing to comply. This helps with not only class control but with creating a learning atmosphere where the students feel that they have a say in their education process. Policies are there to help not only the instructor but to help the student as well, and by showing them they have a say goes a long way.

Military school?

I agree that we should keep our standards of professionalism top priority, but what happens when instructors get too authoritative. When I hear some instructors disciplining students it sounds like the beginning in that Twisted Sister video...tuck in that shirt, stand up straight, wipe that smile from your face, who are you, where do you come from, are you listening to me?, what do you want to do with your life... How do you get through to those guys that this isn't high school and most of our students will respond when talked to.

make sure you print off the information,Great stuff

your expectations

Make sure the students understand what is expected from them from day one then there will be little to no arguments from them on the last few days of class

Hand outs

Even tho we develop our handouts, Sometimes they are not up to the par the students expect......... Deal with it

Prep Time

Alway be prepared for class, the students will know when your not

tests

We write our own test and quizes all are multible choice

Test's

I do a really good review, and still cant understand why a student has the NEED to cheat

Questions

I have learned a few new ways to question students

Learning styles

Trust me when I say this, When teaching a customer service and Computer class it's tough to teach to all different styles.
