SLEEPERS

This is a common issue I face if in the early AM classes the younger student that stays up late the night before and if in the PM you have the student that works and at the end of class the head is down or the eyes open but no one home deal I try to mix up the material i give being animated asking questions but there is just one student that misses I don't want to create a problem and I do ask the student if all is ok I tryed in a few classes the buddy system (they sit in two) if one falls asleep the other goes to the board or will have them read from the book any other ideas ??

Course prep

The outcome of a course may depend on the prep at the beginning

A new instructor

Adjusting from your former career to that of an instructor requires self assessment to make sure you are right for the job.

Course planning.

The urge to plan a course around one's self is tempting but you must remember to satisfy industry standards.

test variaties

I prefere to have more than one type of test to hand out

different approach

Sometimes when quizzing a student ,instead of asking questions I ask them to tell me what they know

asking the same thing differently

I try to vary the way I ask questions

knowing

You should know what you teach.

learning styles

students from all over the world, i've encountered a variaty of styles

at ease

I give out a syllabus so they are not lost.

planning

Planning is always good, but sometime off the cuff works out better.

learning

I have come a long way

Tests

wow, I have seen a whole new world..

I try to asses the students.

I try to get with each student to see how much they got out of the class. I work with each one and go from that.

I love to see visual learning, cut away motors etc.

I try to show this stuff all the time so we all get a good idea how the stuff works.

I like to get the students involved

I like to come up with different Q's for the students and sometimes reword them to see if they catch on.

Confidence

Hiring New Instructors from the field I have found that most new hires lack the confidence to speak in front of a large group of people. This is one of the hardest things for a new instructor must face, after time usually 6 to 9 months you will see the confidence in this person grow. They learn about themselves and how to present information to a class. Being an instructor will always be a growing and developing position if the person is willing to allow himself or herself to grow.

I like asking students questions during class to keep them involved. I will try to be more aware of my wait time when responding and also try redirecting questions to other students. I thought this module had some helpful tips.

The 5 Cs & the 6 Ps

I like the mnumonics for the 5 Cs and the 6 Ps as I just had to deal with this type of situation when evaluating an Instructor Does anyone have any more good mnumonics? Thank you for your thoughts

tests

I'm glad to of had a chance to learn the different types of tests.I think this will be very useful in helping to identify a test question that students are having a tough time with or how it was stated.I think this will aid in helping answer a students question he or she may have on a given test.
