Sparky, The approach to insure you have a workflow plan to identify all required documents, collect and properly maintain is the best methodology to utilize. If you have a plan in place to insure these items occur you should be able to maintain the documents in a manner to protect the student and campus. I would encourage you to set some type of review process to verify that your controls are being followed. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers
Lisa, Your closing is a great point - service that is excellent, timely and accurately delivered goes beyond enrollment, attendance and graduation. The staisfied student that received an excellent experience and education will be your best advertisement out in the public. Also, all of the characteristics work together to leave a lasting impression on the applicant and ultimately the graduate. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers
Bryan, I have seen this type of situation; however, it has been my experience if the student is truthful with their unusual situation you can often find someone willing to come forward and assist. If not, you will have to counsel the student on their limited options. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers

Bryan, I agree this can be a tricky comment code to resolve since you are working with your student and requirements from another institution. The best approach is to counsel your students on their options and have them work with the institution to resolve. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers

Bryan, Also, good feedback. Within our organization we are getting the same type of feedback. It would be great if all students and parents could use this process; however, that is not possible. It certainly benefits the ones that can utilize it. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers

Bryan, Great feedback. Based on my review of ISIR this year it appears more and more students are completing FOTW and utilizing the IRS Data Retrieval. If successful this limits the requirements for collection of additional documentation in several of the verification categories. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers
Miriam, In the case where a third party does not want to write a statement to support the student's situation what do you do? Do you decline to consider the student's situation or do you work with the student to provide other documentation? Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers
Discussion Comment
Miriam, I agree the Selective Service can be difficult. As long as you can document that the student entered the country after their 26th birthday you should have sufficient documentation. If the student documentation used for eligible alien status has the date of entry into the country and it is after the 26th birthday you should be good. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers
Miriam, Any tool to improve the process for the student and the FA staff is important. This way you can focus on what the student and/or parent (for dependent) needs to complete the process. Sincerely. Chyrl Ayers
Sparky, I hope the information was helpful as you move toward approval to award and disburse FSA funds. Sincerely, Chyrl Ayers
