Activity

Pegah, These are interesting questions and as you point out...they will help YOU understand their goals and why they came in - which is really important. What is your prospective student doesn't know the answers though? Dr. Jean Norris
Terrill, Excellent insight! You hit on a key point and that is all the competencies are important but in this environment (and based on how people have changed their buying habits) some are less critical than others. For instance, as you point out, sales skills are ranked lower on the list. Dr. Jean Norris
Marshall, Very true! Product knowledge is important but, as you say, they can get a lot of this from other sources. What other skills/competencies can you bring to the table that will help them connect with you? Dr. Jean Norris
Pegah, Yes indeed! The majority of your success in the admissions profession (and many other positions) is based on attitude! Product knowledge is also important but don't forget that much of that information is already up on the web. Do you think there is anything else more important than product knowledge? Dr. Jean Norris
Discussion Comment
Brannon, So it sounds as if you are the one to get things going. Good for you! How does this knowledge help you and your team? Dr. Jean Norris
Brannon, Very well said and a great practice. Have you ever been in a situation where the focus was on the person? If so...how did that turn out? Dr. Jean Norris
Brannon, Great insight! So how might your preferences help or hinder you in dealing with others who don't share the same viewpoint? Dr. Jean Norris
Antonio, So the ringing bothers you so you pick up the call, right? Although it doesn't sound like an ideal situation, it sounds as if you are making the best of the situation. What, in your opinion, would be the ideal situation when you are meeting with a student and the phone rings though? Dr. Jean Norris
Tien, These are indeed some useful questions. How might you turn some of these into more open ended questions to encourage even more conversation though? Dr. Jean Norris
Perla, This is excellent! Do you find that it is hard to do this 100% of the time? Dr. Jean Norris
