Activity

Thanks for sharing, Shawn! How do your students usually respond when you excuse yourself to take a call? Dr. Jean Norris
Thanks, Shawn! It's great that the size of your campus allows you to be available to answer calls. Keeping a call log is a great start to putting a process in place. It will allow you to analyze trends and identify any areas of breakdown in your admissions methods. Dr. Jean Norris
Daulphine, Thank you for your post! I'm a big advocate of modeling positive body language. When doing this, do you find that students tend to follow and adapt their body language to match yours? Dr. Jean Norris
Thanks for your post, Daulphine! Face to face communication certainly makes understanding the other person much easier. It demonstrates great self-awareness that you realize the areas in which you need work. With continued practice, you'll achieve the same comfort with telephone conversations as you do with face to face! Dr. Jean Norris
Christina, Excellent observations! It sounds like you recognize the importance of non-verbal communication when working with your students and adapt your approach accordingly. Thank you for sharing! Dr. Jean Norris
Iza, Great tips! Thank you for sharing your best practices for making calls. Dr. Jean Norris
Thanks for sharing, Sarah! These are great questions for eliciting information from prospective students. However, I encourage you to be careful with "Why" questions. They tend to put others on the defensive. How else can you phrase your first question without using "why?" Dr. Jean Norris
Eric, Thanks for sharing! It's wonderful awareness to realize that you need to work on eliminating the filler words. Kudos to you for working to make it happen! I think you're right that comfort with the information you're giving will build your confidence and make the filler words go away. Dr. Jean Norris
Iza, The mirror is an excellent idea! It's a great reminder to keep smiling and conveying your positivity. Thanks for sharing! Dr. Jean Norris
Thanks, Carrie! Understanding that the student has taken a big step is great awareness! What specifically do you say to put them at ease and make them feel good about their decision to call? Dr. Jean Norris
