Robin , Your comment about your own personal RSS feed is insightful- I never thought of it that way! Theresa Schmitt
Robin , Fantastic! It is my understanding the organization offers free online courses for members, which is a valuable benefit! Theresa Schmitt
Jean Guy , I agree. Considering the rapid pace in which new technologies are released, we are all learners! Theresa Schmitt
Kerri , Scholarship opportunities as well as the fantastic conventions are just a couple of the advantages of NBEA membership. The discounts on travel are a great added perk as well! Wishing you continued success in the classroom. Theresa Schmitt
William, I agree! In my experience, the overall quality of the program improves when sharing of the curriculum is heavily promoted. You may want to visit the BetterLesson web site launched early this year January. The site features over 3,000 lesson plans, and promotes active sharing among instructors. You can find the site by following this link: http://betterlesson.com/mtp Wishing you continued success in the classroom. Theresa Schmitt
Susan, Many K-12 schools utilize Skype when a student is hospitalized for an extended amount of time or undergoing treatment that prevents them from attending class. It is a great way to keep the student engaged with his or her classmates and not fall too far behind in their studies. Here is a touching story I came across about a young girl with cancer who would Skype in to class while undergoing treatment: http://www.childrenscancer.org/main/kids_stories/lauras_story_surviving_osteosarcoma/ Theresa Schmitt
Jennifer, Well stated. We discover a whole other side to our students when incorporating discussion boards/blended learning techniques. I find those that struggle with technology the most tend to have the highest participation by the end of the term! Best, Theresa Schmitt
Susan, I find the portal keeps me organized, especially when it comes to posting assignments and updating grades in a timely manner. The ability to transfer course content from previous terms or content from another instructors class is a fantastic feature as well. Wishing you continued success in the classroom. Theresa Schmitt
Tracey, As an instructor, I find YouTube an amazing tool for teaching and reinforcing concepts. Just this evening when faced with a technical challenge that had us all stumped, the answer was a short YouTube video away! Wishing you continued success in the classroom. Theresa Schmitt
Kenneth, You bring up an excellent point regarding bandwidth. It is a challenge when teaching an online course and a student does not have the ability to stream video or load large graphic images. Thankfully this issue is not as prevalent as it was just a few years ago, but it is still a challenge for many Professors teaching in an online format. Wishing you continued success in the classroom.
