As an instructor, what methods do you use to identify students before they are no longer able to come to your class? What methods do you use to continue to follow up with those students after your first contact?
As an instructor, what do you find to be the most common reason students quit coming to class? What methods do you use to overcome this retention challenge?
As an instructor, what part do you play to retain students at your campus?
In my opinion it can make a big difference. I used to write a list in order of priority each day of what I needed to accomplish. As the day progressed I would cross things out and add new. Each morning I would then re-write the list and start fresh re-prioritizing as needed. Outlook can do this all electronically and quickly giving reminders as needed, I find it is a great tool in keeping up with those challenges each new day brings and I do not forget important ideas.

Well you are on the right path if they are involved with CEE in my opinion; also I think a lot of it is in showing them the value of improving their skills. One of the values I emphasize is that as they increase their skills, the classroom becomes easier to manage and the students have more fun which in turn the instructor has more fun. Also, I believe, most people want to do a good job but they have their own balance of effort verses return. I try to show the big picture of how the process of introspection… >>>

What are some of the different ways you prepare your course content to address the different learning styles?
Thank you for the reply Jason. I think you have included one of the most important items and that is self awareness of the material and introspection of previous presentations. Confidence I believe is very important to a good delivery and my confidence is much greater when I review the material and all my notes taken from previous classes. Great answer and I hope it continues to work for you.

Thank you for the response Jason. I believe those are all proven methods and I hope they work well for you. I think that verbally giving clear objectives and a value statement are very helpful in getting students excited about what they are to learn as well as letting them know when they understand the information a facilitator is teaching.

Thanks for the reply Nathaniel. Verbally and written are two proven ways, I like that you also added self discovery. It has been said that a learner learns what a learner has created. That being said it would also be important to add the measure of the task so a student would know completely if it was done properly. An example would be that if they had a task to build or assemble something, criteria was in place for the determination if it operated properly or worked in the manner as it was to be applied.
What methods do you use or will you use to keep your students motivated to achieve the required course goals? What do you or will you use to motivate them to achieve the required professionalism in the work environment they are entering?
