Instructors who use scaffolding typically use the following eight tasks to ensure students are building appropriate scaffolding related to the module or course learning objectives.  These tasks are:

  • Provide clear instructions
  • Clarify purpose
  • Keep students on task
  • Offer assessment to clarify purpose
  • Direct students to worthy sources
  • Reduce uncertainty and disappointment
  • Deliver efficiency
  • Create momentum

It is important to keep formatting easy to use, easy to understand, and consistent.

 

It was interesting to me to learn the various ways an instructor can influence student attrition.

 

An important point was not to use constructive criticism. Only encouraging feedback should be used. 

 

It is important to discuss your experience and qualifications with students so they know why you are a respected instructor.

Projecting your presence and authority from a distance was interesting to me. I look forward to learning more about the components of these topics.

 

There is a lot to teaching online. I look forward to learning more. Students can become frustrated with IT issues.
