Gretchen,
Great point. Distractions are abundant enough without adding to them by an instructors inattention to the (necessity) of adequate preparation.
Barry Westling
It allows the instructor to stick with the curriculum and time line. It also demonstrates organization which is a key component in the professional field.
This removes one level of distraction from the student. I instruct along side one instructor, and we have a third instructor on days when I am not there.
Not being organized and prepared causes a slight panic with the student, and their confidence for YOU to instructor, to guide them effectively. As a trade instructor, I need my students building confidence in themselves, not to be concerned with their instructors ability.
Ashley,
Respect and trust are important, and once lost, very difficult to regain.
Barry Westling
Being organized and prepared to teach shows the students that you respect them and value their learning experience.
Afrodite,
Nice comment. Preparing is really a planning activity, and involves thought, effort, time, and creativity for the results to meet the outcomes we desire.

John,
Yes, we owe not just to our students, but our employer, and more universally, our community and employers.
Barry Westling
Organization and preparation an an integral part of being an effective educator. When you are prepared for the upcoming lessons you will have a better idea of the objectives and the content that need to be delivered. You will also have an understanding of the dynamics in your current classroom. Preparation will also allow the instructor to feel more comfortable with the content. This can increase the ability to have a discussion with the students as well as become more interactive instead of just lecturing.
As an educator, we owe it to the student to be prepared. it presents a better learning environment for all as a whole.
Godwin,
As a student I want to believe my instructor knows their subject, is competent with the knowledge, and has a thorough class lesson planned out. This usually cannot occur without adequate preparation.
Barry Westling
It is important to present topics with confidence and sound knowledge and that comes form proper organization and preparation for the class.
John,
Well said. Respect and reputation has to be earned, and is unlikely to reach higher levels if the degree of preparation necessary is missing.
Barry Westling
There will be less stress on the instructor, by being prepared early. In turn you wont appear frantic to the students. The instructor will earn respect as a professional in the classroom and the industry and ultimately an accountable role model.
Eric,
Students need and expect their instructors to be effective facilitators of their training and education. That cannot happen without regular preparation and effort in readiness for class.
Barry Westling
You will be able to affective utilize your time and you less likely to stumble there the contents.
Robert,
And, students expect this from us, even if they are not on that same level of preparation.
Barry Westling
Rochelle,
Yes, students know and can sense when their instructor is prepared -- and it does make a difference in the flow of lesson material provided.
Barry Westling
This demonstrates organization, preparation and knowledge to the students. Also, shows discipline. The instructor needs to illustrate and be perceived as the leader and thereby motivating students in the learning process.
It's important because 1) it shows your students that you have prepared for the class and that you have taken the time to ensure that what you are going to be teaching them is worth their time and 2) it helps you to actually have an organized and well-thought out delivery system for the material that you plan on going over.
being organized and prepared for each class make me feel very confident for the class at hand, and in turn my students will feel valued and appreciated as they see the efforts i place into preparing for each and every class.
