Wendy ,
Right, otherwise the instructor is just asking for problems. Order, structure, daily plan, and clear expectations sets the tone, and students are more likely to comply.

Organizing & preparing assist with a smooth running class. Students nowadays are able to see disorganization from the get-go and will take advantage of the situation.
Prior to entering the classroom, you need to access all possible scenarios and have possible solutions. Make sure you walk thru and analyze. Never enter the classroom or briefing room without a strong plan.
Elliot,
True, each have their responsibilities. For me, being consistently prepared sets the tone for expectations by students, and routines actually help students in their own readiness and study. The more clear and direct guidelines and course material is presented, the more apt students are to understand and proved learning is more likely.

I believe the main reasons for organization and preparation can be two-fold. On the student's perspective it sets an example for their own work. On the instructor's side it prevents being rushed and perhaps haphazard in their presentation.
Jason,
Yes, any experienced instructor knows that smooth and meaningful delivery cannot happen without time, effort and preparation. And I like to feel I am giving my best in a competent and confident manner.

We need to illustrate to students that we are in control of the content that we are delivering and that our transitions in each class are smooth and meaningful.
Mark,
Yes, and unfortunately, once credibility is lost, it's awfully hard to regain ground. Students need to feel confidence about their instructors knowledge, and without adequate preparation, even the best instructor will not shine as bright as they should.
Barry Westling
Being prepared is key for any task. Students will lose confidence in your ability as instructor if they see you are not prepared or organized.
Kurt,
Right! Students are anxious enough with our contribution to their angst through inattention or lack of preparedness.
Barry Westling
Brenda,
Yes, students appreciate the time, effort, planning and readiness an instructor provides their students. Of course, this makes for a much improved and productive learning environment.

GETA,
Much like parenting, much of what is to come of our students is shaped by our preparedness to consistently give the best we can.

Jay,
Without the needed preparation an instructor is risking much; wasting a lot of time, jeopardizing positive student opinion and effective learning, deteriorated morale, trust and respect, and diminished reputation (instructional and instructor).

As stated in this course, it builds respect. I know that when I see someone un-organized and frazzled I become frazzled as well. It’s like sympathy pains! It’s embarrassing for me. There is something about a “well oiled machine†that can bring peace to an anxious situation.
I feel as you enter the class room the students are all watching and the impression you make sets the tone for the class. Being organized ,cheerful and ready will make a great impression and set the right tone.
Being organized is essential to effective teaching. While some students seem to think an instructor is cool if he is disorganized in reality they will come to regret your disorganization because invariably your disorganization will make it more difficult for them to retain the information your are trying to convey.
I feel it is important to be organized and prepared for class because class will flow better and be easier to teach. As an instructor, material will be easier to present to students since it has been prepared and I will know what I will be teaching or going over. Also, it will set the tone of the class and content for the module for the students.
It is important for us to be organized and prepared to teach as we are indeed role models for our students. As instructors we have to be in a state of readiness as this will inspire confidence in our audience. It is our responsibility to be prepared.
Being prepared is also a sign of respect. Indeed we are being paid to do a job.
It is the hope that whatever we do in creating legacy will motivate our students to being prepared and ready also.
There is probably no more important task then course preparation. This is vital for time management, course flow, and to ensure that objectives are met. Instructors owe it to the students and the college to prepare properly and make sure that the time allotted is utilized in an engaging and educational manner. Instructor creditability often hinges on their level preparation.
Daniel ,
Very true. Students want and need direction, instruction, and clear expectations, and these don't occur without time, effort, and thought on the part of the instructor.

As an instructor when you are organized you show the students what is expected of them. You lead by example when you are organized and in control of your emotional intelligence.
