I think that it is very important to be organinzed and prepared to teach because it helps you bring forth what is needed. If you aren't prepared or organized the students will know and you will not be able to teach them properly. You need to have everything set up and out so that you can do things in an orderly fashion and your class/students will understand you more clearly and also be able to ask you questions and you answer them without any trouble/problems. This will also give structure to the class and the students will appreciate you for it.

It is important for you to be organized and prepared, because if you don't notice students watch your every move. You are the leader and they look to you on how to act and they will carry that out with them into thier professional field. It also shows that you care about them by putting forth the effort to have everything ready to go so they do not have to wait on you.

ROBBYN,
Good preparation does infer a degree of professionalism and therefore, improved credibility. Not just for students, the classes of a well organized and prepared instructor lead to smoother running sessions and better instructional environment.

Students are supposed to be learning from you. If you are unorganized and unprepared for class then what type of message do the students pick up from your example? If you do not follow the same concepts that you are teaching your students may start to wonder how credible you are.

Anitra,
Right, and besides it being our job, classes run smoother for us when we are prepared. Students do notice when their teacher is less than ready for class, which probably doesn't contribute favorably towards respect and trust by students towards their instructor.

Ida,
Students recognize when their instructor has put in the needed time, effort, and preparation for a class session. And besides it being our job, getting a class ready gives the students the best opportunity to learn.

Ida,
Right. Students want to know we are ready to help them.

I believe that it is important to be well organized and prepare for class because it shows professionalism. We expect our students to be organized and prepared for class and it is a "practice what you preach" method.

Being organized gives you confidence, and helps the class run smoothly. Being organized demonstrates professionalism to your students

It lets students know you care about their education

Sherri ,
A well organized daily plan accompanied by the necessary preparation conveys confidence and competrence, and students both recognize and appreciate the effort. Of course, good preparation helps the teacher the most, as you've implied.

It is extremely important to be organized and prepared to teach because you as an instructor will be all over the place and your class will be so confused and disengaged that you will loose their attention and respect for you. You have to have things organized and prepared in order to run your class properly and keep your students interests.

Chad,
I agree. I feel that organization and flexibility are both attributes that will contribute to being ready for whatever occurs in the class. Sometimes, the occasion calls for more explanation. Our preparation should allow for the needed change-ups that inevitibly will be present in the day to day instructional process. An prepared and organized instructor will be able to take that in stride.

Even if you know your subject extremely well, students will recognize if you are prepared for class or not. Hopefully, you expect them to be well prepared and should set the example by being very well prepared yourself. Unfortunately, sometimes unexpected situations arise or students do not comprehend a lesson as well as you might have hoped. This requires experience and frequent formative assessment to adapt to classroom situations.

Heinz,
Right. We are the professional, and to a degree a role model, at least from the standpoint of being prepared for work. We expect that from our students so we should at least be diligent to do our job in the same way. And it is our job - we are paid to be prepared.

It shows the student that the instructor is professional and is prepared to teach.
Every handout must be ready to be distributed, AV equipment must be set up and checked prior to class so that the presentation is flawless. If props are used, they must be prepared before the class starts unless it is used as a project where students may have to assemble something.

Meagan,
Yeah, an instructor can be quite knowlegeable but if they're not prepared, they can come off looking as if they don't know their stuff. We have a responsibility and owe the student the courtesy of our time, attention, and preparation.

Being organized and prepared for each class shows students a level of professionalism that needs to be modeled in the field. Also being organized and prepared allows you to be more knowledgable of the content.

Debby,
Right. Organization helps both teacher and student stay focused on the needed objectives. It's easy to get distracted, and sometimes deviating from the topic is OK, but without a systematic plan, things can get out of control, to the misfortune of of the students learning outcomes.

When you are organized, you feel calmer and more able to present your material clearly.
