Hi Burke:
Great. Sometimes the trick is to try to find which media it is that reaches all of your students. There are different learning styles, behaviors, perspectives, and abilities. No one media will be best in all settings. That's why it's best if you can mix it up a bit with a variety of media choices.

Hi Andy:
PPT can be a wonderadjunct. I think the biggest problem with it is when it gets overused or improperly formatted in way that the information actually becomes distracting to the students. I'd say its time to scale back a bit if one's nmedia or teaching aids are getting in the way of the lesson.

In each class you can see that there are different types of learners. So I try to find the best media for that type of student.

Over the years I have changed my media choices according to the equiptment offered in the university setting. As time has been progressing most schools that I teach for have expanded their equiptment inventory and made things more user friendly.
At this point, my preference is lecturing with power points, however, I am flexible should a problem occur with the technology.

Hi Stephen:
Your approach is very methodical and logical. It should produce the best resources available to you. It's great that you are willing to mofdify according to individual student differences.

Hi Chan:
Bringing together these two learning domains (cognitive and kinesthetic) contributes to longer lasting learning retention.

My reasons for selecting a particular form of media for use in my classes start with basic logistics- what is possible? The choices then are narrowed by approaching it from the students' perspective- what will illustrate/ elucidate the point most effectively. Then, from the instructor's perspective, what am I comfortable or not so comfortable with, and if the preferred media is not in my comfort zone, can I get there through practice/training/skill development? If a medium is practical and preferable for the student, then I think it incumbent on the instructor to learn ti use it well.

I am hands on teacher. I like to do a lot of demos and show students how to do the job. It keeps them awake and they like to watch me.

Hi James:
There are so many appropriate methods to deliver instructional material these day that it everso more important to choose the most appropriate methods for your students.

Hi Wendy:
Great! I like how you've set the media to approximate the learning varieties of your students. Terrific!

Hi Mary:
You're right, some media is better suited for some topics better than others. Thinking about works best in your class is a worthwhile effort.

Proper media helps to hold and keep the students attention. It must be varied in its delivery and true like anectdotes included along the way.

In selecting the proper media style for your class you must have a good feel for the varied personlities in the class. How to keep them focused, comfortable to ask for advice and to push your message forward are important points to remember.

selecting media for my classes depends on the day, what skills we sre learning, how the material will most keep my student engaged, and how best the material will deliver a concept.

Hi Duane:
You have a good point - to think about the class from the students point of view. As instructors we feel we know the lesson material and sometimes fail to recognize that some students have a difficult time trying to grasp the material. Discussing and reviewing are methods to give the instructor an idea where their students are at in the learning cycle.

I think that the information that is being taught also dictates the media chosen. For example live recordings of subject matter. I try to put myself in the students seat, would I understand the lesson.

Hi Jason:
You have access to some good resources and it sounds like your using them to your benefit in the classrrom. Involving multiple senses, and engaging students in the the lesson will always improve your student learning outcomes.

I use the exsisting tools in the class. We have two flat screen tv's and PP capabilite. The use of PP is great for me I can add and take away as need be. Try interactive learning tecniques like the sauce breaks becouse... Then have the students awnser and then make the correct awnser come up. Pictures, clips and sounds are all ways to stimulate the sences and get great interaction with the class.

Hi Charlie:
PPT can be very instructive and add to the lesson, or as you say, too wwordy and boring. It's not just the PPT either. A terrific PPT can be ruined by a sloppy presenter who may be monotonous, read from the slides only, or provide no opportunity for student interaction.
