Personality is an integral piece of the presentation. The instructor must understand his/her own personality and how the students perceive him/her, as he/she is developing their delivery selection. A person with little technology saavy should not rely heavily on technology; but rather more tried and true methods while they develop the technology saavy. A very funny person will be successful weaving humor into the delivery. A person who has problems staying organized should probably have someone else look over their presentationt to make sure it is presented in an organized fashion. A delivery selection should take the following points into consideration when being planned; topic, instructor's personality, available equipment and the tenor of the class.
Anytime you stand before a class and present material, your personality is going to show. It will affect your delivery format, how you perceive the class and how they perceive you! It's going to dictate how you come across to a class and it can be tweaked to better serve your students.
An instructor needs to feel comfortable with the delivery selection or the selection may not have the effect it should or could have with the students. Comfort comes with familiarity with the selection as well as making sure it syncs with the instructor's personality and delivery style.
I know that I have a tendency to stray from the topic if a question comes up that is important or related but slightly off topic. Knowing this I have used PowerPoint as a delivery selection in an effort to pull myself back to the topic and keep track of the where I was in my delivery.

Hi Derrick:
Enthusiams is so important. We all have our own version of how we present and engage. It's best to be natuaral and authentic as students will see through artificial "pumped up" versions of an insincere presenation.

Capturing your personality strengths in your delivery certainly facilitates learning when applied appropriately to the enviornment. It can help students see that you believe in what you are teaching which ultimately advances your instruction.
Your personality plays a huge role.Depending on who you are and your temperment concerning your delivery method, can make or break a class on the first day.I am an individual with a dynamic personality so I will use that to connect with my students. I will model enthusiasm for the content.
Hi Lacy:
We all have our preferred style but are capable with others. Like a muscle, using what needs more polishing can help us in being overall better teachers. But I suggest this only if it'll be helpful to students, not just for the sake of trying.
Regards, Barry
I am very comfortable talking to groups of people so I end up lecturing more often. I do try to use many other teaching methods though such as demonstration and in class assigments. I have a very strong passion for the material that I teach and I hope that comes across in my lectures.
My personality definitely plays a big role in how I deliver course content. I like to talk with people not at them so I engage in a lot of discussions with my students. This is not to say that I don't "lecture" but I like to get them involved so that they can voice their opinions and feel like it is really about them and not about me. It also helps them stay focused because it is not me lecturing to them for four hours and them listening. They are listening as well as engaging in discussions with me and the rest of the class.
Hi Shawna:
You bet! An enthusiastic teacher exited about their topic is very attention-grabbing and attention sustaining.

Hi Dan:
Personality is important. The best one is the one when the teacher is being natural, confident in their abilities, and willing to be free to present their course in a variety of methods they feel best teach their students.
I don't think we should try to be an artificial version of someone else. I ask my faculty to critique the student evaluations to understand and appreciate why students view us the way they do. This self awreness exercise is very helpful in being sensitive to the diversity of student expectation of teachers these days.

I try very hard to always(when applicable), include a story or personal experience with information being taught. I have found this keeps studnets attentive and engrossed in lecture. We usually get a few laughs as well. A major part of my personality is finding the lighter side to even tough situations. By sharing those thoughts/memories with my students I feel they get a glimpse of me, my style as a professional and they feel a connection to me as well as the course material.
I completely agree with Rita! As I deliver the information to the students, I maintain an animated tone...to let them know how excited I am to be there with them. It lets them see that the instructor is passionate about the material, which in turn causes them to be a little more interested.
It is vital to be aware of one's own personality, and teaching style. The students will pick up on it immediately! It is amazing that many,(if not most) people really have no clear concept of how they come across to others. This, in a teaching environment, will impact the classroom, and the learning that takes place as a result. Thus, a clear understanding of one's strengths and liabilities is a tremendous asset to an instructor.
Hi Rita:
Excitement, enthusiasm, add to a greater enjoyment and interest in whatever the teacher is talking about. Teachers who are naturally gifted as you are make clkasses fun.

having different backgrounds in learning could be a good asset. having a coaching background helps me get students excited about learning by coaching them through situations.
My personality is very conducive to teaching as I tend to be excited about my topic in every classroom. This gets/keeps the students excited and aids in my student retention. They actually want to attend my classes!
Use your personality to engage the students by having discussion on real work/life experiences as related to course content.
A teacher that show the student that she care and she or he love what she do can do abig impact on the student.Loving your job make it easy to deal with student and to do a better job.
You can go through and learn certain techniques but when all is said and done your own personality will come through in the long run.
