The goal of educating students is two-fold. The primary goal is to accomplish the course objectives set forth by the course and learning institution. Secondly, the goal of education is to instill a love of learning in your students so they become passionate about learning, growing, and developing to thier full potential.
Make them Knowledgable and Responsible.
When I was thinking about making a change in my own life, after working for 25 years in pharmacy, I realized that passing on my knowledge to our younger generation was the next step I should take. It was the best decission I ever made. I love it when a student who "fears" math, suddenly realizes that they "get it!" The shine in their eyes and their eagerness to get in front of the class to do problems on the board almost brings a tear to my eye. I have come up with a way to teach my students how to do a ratio proportion problem that doesnt make them think of it as math. They have a visual that I give them and now every time that type of problem appears they all yell .... the fish!

To me the goal of educating students is in some cases to refresh their self-esteem through learning. Alot of older adult students have lost confidence due to cases such as losing a job after 30 years when the business shuts down. We can instill in those learners that they can in fact learn new skills to continue their future and make them marketable for prospective employers.
Ultimately the goal is to give them the knowledge and skills to be successful in their field of studt, therefore everything should be focussed on long term success as a graduate.
