To make sure they have the skills to go into the hospitals with professionalism and accuracy int doint the job that was taught to them
Hi Kenneth:
An interesting activity I've used a few times is I've given the students the topic objectives, organized the class into groups, then have them make up the PPT lesson on their segment of the objectives. I can follow up with question, discussion, or just clarify, correct or complement their PPT's with my own to make sure everything gets covered. I think when students "teach" to their classmates they retain the information better than if I just dish it out.

As an employer, I know what I look for in candidates, but also what I try to nurture in my employees as we develop their individual skills as well as a cohesiveness as a team. My goal as an instructor is to give my students the building blocks and foundation that I would like to see in perspective candidates. While this may seem to be a very selfish motivation, I would hope that other employers and managers would want the same thing on which to develop their own employees.
power point presentations are outstanding to use!! I always include the students to assist when showing a PWP presentation. They help explain the slide and I alternate students with slides.
Hi Rodney:
Yes, I agree taht is one goal, perhaps higher on the scale than others. As teachers, we have the opportunity to share "soft skills" (attendance, courrtesy, responsibilty, self esteem, etc,) along with the core content. I think that's what partially separates good instructors from great ones in the minds and memories of students.

The goal of educating students is to give the needed informaion so that they able to apply the tools learned in class to an actual work environment.
Hi Mark:
I think that is pretty much on the mark. We give, they take. We measure, they perform.

We are attempting to change the learners behavior in a way that allows them to use new information in a variety of settings
Hi Lydia:
I think it's great when you can relate the "lofty goals of getting an education" to the everyday life of reality. Any media choices you use that can emphasize that should be awesome!

The goal of educating students is to allow them to understand the principles and concepts by relating them to their every day lives. It is important to utilize powerpoint slides to assist in getting the points acrossed.
Hi Stephen:
Yes, and that's why the focus has to be on learning and prepared more so than grades. I've this comment many times regarding evaluating students, the importance is if we've adequetly prepared them. The grade is really a secondary (and separte) subject.

Hi Stephen:
Of course, you are right. I was giving more of a scientific kind of answer. As good teachers all of the attributes you describe and more are incorporated into the goal of educating students.

I think that the confidence "issue" is enormous. By way of career education, our students hopefully head directly to the workplace. I believe that most of my students know if they have simply slipped by and marked time in a class, as opposed to really learning something. And, I believe, that the boost in self-esteem and confidence via genuine learning transcends a given grade, i.e., I have had students finish a class both confident and inspired having earned a grade of "C". These are the ones more likely to succeed than those with similar grades who feel that they have failed for not achieving higher marks.
Yes, the transfer of information is primary, but at the same time, I want and hope that my students find some inspiration, some new excitement for the field, not simply a feeling of competence.
Hi Jeremy:
You have a good working definition for goal. It would appear if you are successful, so will the student be.
Regards, Barry
I consider the goal of educating students as assisting them in gaining the skills and knowledge to perform specific tasks, while working in harmony with other courses to prepare students for the "real world" in their field of study.
Hi Kim:
Really true - we are preparing tommorrow's leaders and workers. Transfering what we know in an enthusistic manner can contribute to motivating and inspiring students - this will advance the technology from where we're at now (point A) to innovation where advances will be made in the future (point B).

To continue to enhance their understanding the careers of which they have chosen. After all, they are tomorrow's leaders. Working in a technical institution, it's important to understand, not only the book-learning aspect, but how it relates in the real world.
Hi Keith:
Success may be an outcome especially if the needed material is adequately and acurately tranfered from the teacher to the students.
