Function, purpose, accessiblity, and the ability to convey the message I am trying to provide in a clear and concise manner.

Hi Jon:
You tube is definitely a fun tool to incorporate into the learning environment when possible.

With any presentation media, its important to remember to use a balance of media to effectively get the point across, without distracting from the main material.

Regards, Barry

Hi Rebecca:
The comments you made support the philosophy of keeping the material as interesting as possible.

By having a variety of strategies, the instructor can keep the material interesting, whcih may help keep the student engaged.

Regards, Barry

Hi Wanda:
These are all great ideas of using multiple types of media to address all types of learning styles.

Regards, Barry

Hi Edward:
Good point - we really do have a lot of choices at our fingertips today.

Most instructional strategies agree that using a multi-level approach with different activities is considered the most effective way of teaching to students today.

Regards, Barry

Hi Connie:
Or how about taking that one step further - plan to use (if possible) many instructional strategies on a regular basis to avoid putting students to sleep.

Even graphics and interesting pictures can become montonous if that is all you are using.

Regards, Barry

Hi Theresa:
Most instructional strategies are in agreement with you - using a variety seems to be the most effective way of addressing all of the student learning styles there are.

Regards, Barry

Hi Khalia:
Using many different types of instructional methods is considered the best way to make sure the instructor is addressing each type of learning style: visual, audio, or kinesthetic.

Regards, Barry

Hi Isabel:
Power-points and videos are a fun way of breaking up a lecture.

One thing instructors may consider is a balance of activities that addresses all types of learning methods: visual, audio, and kinesthetic.

Regards, Barry

Hi William:
That's true - especially if you've never used a new resource. Doing a run through with any material you've never used before is a great way to make sure of this.

Regards, Barry

I select media for content delivery based on the topic that I am teaching and how valuable the selection that I choose will be to the goal of presenting to the class in order to provide meaning, understanding and knowledge gained. If that's not accomplished, I'll try a different approach the next time.

Hi Terry:
That sounds like an effective method. It sounds similar to the philosophy that many instructors sometimes use in their instruction style - using multiple activities to try to have a more robust learning environment.

Regards, Barry

Hi Marlene:
Good point - it is important to keep the students engages so they don't end up missing important information about a lesson plan.

You also illustrate that in today's market, there are many methods to deliver information in the classroom that doesn't necessarily involve lecture.

Regards, Barry

Hi Catherine:
Good point- in this day and age, there are many ways of presenting information. It doesn't necessarily have to be in lecture format, or any specific way, as long as the learning is happening.

Regards, Barry

Hi Giovanni,

This is yet another great example of using multiple teaching styles to facilitate learning in a group of students who may learn differently.

Regards,

Barry

Hi Neelam,

You're right, selection of effective presentation media is important.

However, the most important factor in learning is the learning itself. One might consider that if learning has taken place, than the presentation style doesn't matter at all.

Regards,

Barry

My feeling on this is using a media that you are comfortable with but as the course goes on to keep the students interested change to another method, as long as your comfortable with and if you are not try it out before hand so there are problems.

I have found more instructional material and sites for free on the enternet. One of my favorite free sites is ORLive. I can pull this up and show actual real surgeries, either live or taped. I choose a surgery (or somethimes I let the students choose) based on the topic I am teaching at the time. I make sure that I stay on point with that. My Surgical Technology Students love it!!

Since I am teaching in the online environment, I am limited to what I can use. Of course I use Power point as my main delivery method. I can not use all of the senses as the module suggests. The senses I do use are visual, hearing and to some extent touch, since they are on a computer while they are attending their courses.

I look at what the objective is that day and decide how it best be covered.
