Put a summary of thats days agenda on the white board so the students can see what is going on for that days activitys. Introduce yourself to the class and tell them what your back ground was in or if you were an expert in a certain area of the field. Tell them a little bit about yourself like where you are from if another state or city and what it was like from there. Ask them what they want or expect to get from this class. What their goals are for the next 3 weeks what they want to gain knowledge of or about the subject matter that we will be going over. Thanks Audie Toney

I like to start a new class by getting the tables and chairs neat, and I put the course materials out on the tables. When the students arrive I meet them at the door and check for badges, shoes, etc. First impressions set the tone for the whole class, so it's important to be on my game the first day.

the following should be on the board at the beginning of class: your name, course title, frist days outline (sop's, safety, tests, labs).
you should be dressed properly, room should be clean and neat. course books should be ready to be passed out.

Hey Steve,
A new class is always a learning curve. As was stated prior being over prepared is a good thing. It can be a real challenge to know the exact timing for the delivery of course information for a new course. Here are several bullet points for the preparation of a new course:
- Be sure the class room set up is as organized and well thought out as possible. The first impression when the students walk in is key to a successful class.
- Introduction- the introduction should be formal and include and outline with expectations for the complete course.
- Show excitment and enthusiasm...it will be contageous!
- Q & A- Always make time in the first days lesson plan for a questions and answers session about the course and the objectives.

Before I start a new course on the first day I will go thru the first day of material in advance of the start of this class. If there is anything that I don't understand fully I will dig the information out of my reference material if this doesn't work I will ask someone that teaches the course before it ever starts.

To make sure room & tables are all clean, neat,& enough for class size w/2-extra chairs available in case of a vistor in the room. I put some type of cut-away training aid on each table,& have all books or materials needed for the class. I put what ever the day will consist of on the right side of the board & Inform them of its purpose. I introduce myself to the student body, the room info, the lab area,& then inform them of what their requirements are of this class. I try to exert extra energy showing how much I like being here and the material I get to cover.

the first day of a new class can be stressful for instructors and students alike. For the instructor, mental preparation is the key. The classroom, handouts, training aids, and power point all need to be ready, but the instructor must have a plan that includes meet and greet the students, put them at ease that you know the material, give them clear expectations about course content, grading, rules and consequences.

I start off each new course with materials Available class requirements I have the students give introduction; Name, Age,where they are from and ask them what they expect from this class. I go over SOC and expectations. I let them know what they can expect from me. I also tell them my backgroung and all of the classes that I have taught

I make sure the room is clean and neat, all materials for the first day are laid out on the tables and coffee and candy is availble. The basic days criteria is posted on the board. I introduce myself and the course as well as expectations for the students. review KTS and then start the class. I have a presentation prepared for those who miss the first day so they can catch up.

Hi Steve,
First class preparation can entail many interelated and interthreaded concepts from what is going to be lectured on to what is going to be demonstrated by the instructor, then student completion of tasks in the shop. If preparation for all areas of the training from concept to delivery is not planned out, practiced, and monitored, the educational value may not me met.

Steve, there is alot to be said about being prepared. On the first day is most important because the students at least think that you know what you are talking about and you don't take time out of class to get the needed items.

Hello Steve,

On the first day of class, I start by making sure that the lab and class are in order and presentable. I have found that the meet and greet is especially critical on the first day. After the bell rings I take attendance and introduce myself. I will then make a seating chart as the students are introducing themselves. Then sop's are covered and the goals and objectives of the course. After that I call out the focus points of each section in the material. I also make sure that I am up to date on any changes to the course or new info from the field. As far as syllabus goes I will either write it out on the board and have them copy it or I will have a syllabus to hand out. I find that the syllabus tends to stick with them better, when they copy it, most of the time. Also, on the board, I will list the topics to be covered and on the left side and on the right I will list the order of those objectives.

meet & greet the students coming in, give a short introduction of yourself & what the students can expect from you. then tell them what you expect from them followed by a detailed outline of the course then finish up by telling them why you choose this area of expertise in your chosen field

have everything organized that you will be presenting to the class.a well planned introduction would be in order.let the class know
what they are in for, tests, labs, studies, ect.let them know what they are about to learn and the outcome of it should be.a positive attitude is the key to sucess.

Introduce myself, tell a little about myself. Go over school abjectives. Then go over cource abjectives. Have on the board what will be covered that day.

The first day of a new class is always an exciting time to meet and greet new people. While preforming the class SOP's and introductions one can get a very accurate feel for the experience and knowledge level of the new class. Finding out where someone hails from and identifying with the individual one on one adds to the cohesiveness that becomes a necessary part of each class. With a better feel of their class mates and their home town/state many students develop new friendships on the first or second day of class.

The first few minutes of a new class will set the tone for the rest of the phase. The second a new student walks into your classroom, he is sizing up the instructor, classroom, textbooks training aids the class as a whole. You the instructor has to prove to the student that you know your field of instuction, you know the rules, and you can manage the class. You always have to bring your A-Game to school. The first ten to fifthteen minutes will determine if said student will buy into the course, and allow you to teach him. When it comes to education like other things in life people make their minds up very fast. You need to act and talk the part, this is where your professionalism. tech. training and delivery will come to your aid.

On the first day I show the class motivation. the passion to do the very best I can to give them as much knowledge as time allows. To be well prepared, this gives me the advantage to answer any of their questions. Because of the knowledge I gained in the field, I am very comfortable & confident of the material to present

Before each course start, I write on the white board and explain daily events.Through out the day I go over the benefits to the students what they are getting out of the daily and course structure.I make sure I have any extra material copied and ready for hand out on a daily basis.

Steve,
I make sure all handouts are copied. I use a syllibus for all my classes. This gives the student an idea of what is happening everyday.
I mentally go over the objectives of the class, and the objectives of the lab to reinforce the class presentation.I make sure my lesson plan is on the podium since I have timing notes for my presentation in the lesson plan.To motivate student's in transport is a challenge I usually use the monitary gain factor for this.
Starting the class on time shows the students you care and you are professional.
