I'm biulding the power point on Mercury and Suzuki shimmig.

Building power points to enhance the class.

I have learned many things in this course to help enhance my teaching stile. The most important to me would be to ability to present the material in as many different ways as possible to try and connect with all the different learning stiles that would be seated in my classroom. I find that some classes are very easy to teach and others are very difficult do to the mixes of learning stiles. For me this would be to view my presentation from the student‘s prospective. I need to always keep in mind what the student is observing.

I feel I can employ several techniques. Being a mentor is one where I can show them the personal side of my trade. Not letting myself become their friend is another. By not being a friend it keeps it professional. And if I use my technical capabilities to their fullest extent it will also benefit the students.

Good point Richard, As we all know of the diverse learning styles among our students I believe that allowing them to apply both methods such as hands on and critical thinking one can achieve objectives in order to fulfill their needs.
Although some may not meet both criterias the ones that fall under the category stated above can always be of help to those locking of either method.

refine my professionalism with the students & develop better lesson plans.

I can continuously improve my teaching skills. Also, I can observe other teachers in a classroom setting. Further, I can ask Students for feedback on what Style of instructor motivates them.

use the techniques of other instructors by observing them in class enviroment

I would like to keep the student's working with there hands as well as with there minds on more in class lab projects that apply to the course for that day. Rich Molloy

Hi Steven,
I share your view on your expectation for students, you are also absolutely right on motivation especially in this day and age with this genaration.

Roberto

I have an expectation for my students that they take there educational experience as I did. Trying to motivate them and mentor them to do so is a challenge.

just keep a child like open mind to learning always open to new ideas

Hi Alfredo,
I believe all of us went through the same drama when faced with a croud for the very first time especialy where one had deliver his or her first message. You are absolutely right, is a good way to find out one's week point as well as strong point for I recall the very first class and subject thought nerve-breaking however, inspite of all the drama I survived.

When I first got the chance to get up in front of everyone to teach it was very nice that I only had to do two hours of information about a certain topic. this gave me the chance to try to over come some of the fear of being in front of a group of people. This gave me the opportunity to find out my weak points as well as my strong points.this help me by progressively doing more and more, refining as I did more.

Reading your audience, a.k.a. students, is an important consideration in refining an instructional style. Trying too hard to be liked instead of respected? Perhaps going too far to impress with your own knowledge base? Attempting humor which is inappropriate or outdated? Tuning in to attention span, body language and facial expressions of students can tell you a lot about the need for revision of your own instructional style.

Hi Charles,
Good example of taking a positive approach to each new class session even though it is every three weeks. It sounds like you are ready to go each time a new class of students walks in. Keep up the good work. I know your students will benefit from your professional attitude.

Hello Elizabeth,

Thanks for sharing, I share your views for I believe that teaching others is sharing knowledge to those that are seeking. A teacher must have passion for what he or her does in this industry for our job is to make a difference in individuals life.
In addition, as you stated within your post teaching a subject that is not part a student's major is very difficult for I recall in undergrad school when I had to take certain classes some teachers will make provisions in order for us to show interest in the subject matter.

My instructional style involves begin with the old traditional lecture for about 45 minutes to an hour. There after evaluate the class in order to find out how many students are aboard on the topic in discussion and how many are not in touch with the rest of us. This process allows me to come up with a different approach depending on the result.
If the second process do not work, I will switch to a different method which involves the entire class which in any circumstances the third process is always the one taking president over the prior two.
Onthe other hand, I might try number three at the begining of the class which depending on the student age group might allow the opportunity to remain with process number three. What techniques can be applied in order to "develop, refine and enhance my instructional style"? I will have to tape my self replay and evaluate.

I refocus every three weeks. The course I teach only lasts three weeks. I refocus at the begining of each class by addressing them with a positive attitude and enthusiasm. This usually transfers to the students. I believe a good beginning is crucial to a positive learning experience. Throughout my course I congratulate students on their progress. Giving positive feedback energizes them, which in turn energizes me. I have commited to "caring" about my students/ they know that and it helps promote positive learning in my classroom.I have had continued success over the past year or so using these concepts to motive my students and this in turn motivates me.

That's a tall question. Here are some possibilities.

Observe other instructors

Intentionally alter style occasionally & analize results

Incorporate new learning in new ways
