Hi Malak,
This is why it is so important to segment your instruction. That way you can pace it for your students as needed.

Hi Emilie,
Keep exchanging information, tips and strategies. This is how we all grow and develop our teaching abilities.
Gary

I continue to discuss techniques with my fellow instructors as well as other teachers outside of the college to learn different ways to modify my instructional style.

Hi Damian,
Good strategies that will result in more effective student engagement.
Gary

I find that I sometimes need to slow down with material content to not overwhelm students.

To enhance instructional style you have to enter deeply in the subject,nd gave them resonable examples which correlate with subject.

Becom e more energetic, and encourge my students by being more available

Hi Amer,
I agree with you about the need for and benefits of student involvement. Involvement like this really helps to create a connection with the content for the students.
Gary

Hi Tessie,
Adjusting your instructional delivery to meet the needs of your students is a great way to keep them engaged as you know but many instructors are unwilling to do this. So your ability and willingness to do such illustrates how you are demonstrating your professionalism while meeting student needs.
Gary

I can take additional courses and I can learn from seasoned instructors.

Continued education, video taping myself and observing other instuctors to learn what works well for me. Also, student surveys have also helped me in terms of what students felt worked well and what didn't.

In the classroom I attempt to use slides as an outline and extensively support the slide information with examples, anecdotes, experiences related to the slide. Students can read slides, I don't need to read it to them, but I do need to build on the outline to cover the materials to be learned.

In clinical I relate the classroom/lab work to the application of the knowledge and procedures they have learned with hands on practice. I must try to consistently review the procedures and clinical practice guidelines so the students get the most accurate & up to date supervision & guidance when applying newly learned skills.

In my opinion, involving student activity during class is an important part of the learning process. It gives them a sense of belonging rather than just feeling they are invisible in just another lecture.

I am a strong believer of student engagement in the learning process. It positively enhances the environment and as such helps them grasp the information. In a way, it may actually make them look forward to coming to class !

I belive, demostration my best point. I can present any topic better with demonstration.

Being that I'm relatively new to teaching, I am constantly mindful of the different types of learners in my classes. Listening to different instructors, and picking up bits of useful advice, reading various articles, and paying attention to the soft skill training modules I am participating in are helping me develop as an instructor. I try not to make broad changes, but rather smaller tweaks to my style, so that I can more accurately gauge whether or not those changes are beneficial.
As time allows, I plan on sitting in on more classes at my school to see if there are different styles that i could possibly use to help me be a better teacher.

I am only four weeks into this endeavor after thirty some years in the field, but my first take on developing a style is to:

Take a frank inventory of my inherent personallity traits, possibly with the aid of spouse and others who know me well.

Examine the character and style of those from whom I myself have learned most effectively (and I have been blessed to have had many).

Take professional development courses engineered to help with the process.
