Veneece,
Good point and one we instructors need to remember each and every time we step into the classroom. We are the learning leaders so we need to model our expectations.

It is important for educators to show professionalism in every way for our students to follow that model.
Instructional Professionalim may include starting class on time and ending it on time .Being on time for every single projects .Words can be strong , so making sure that we only say what we want the students to hear is essential .
Watching the body language and not losing temper .

Cheryl,
Right you are about how students perceive and respond to instructors. We need to be models for our students in all that we do because they are always observing us. We set the tone so we need to bring our enthusiasm and passion for our field to class every time it meets.

Students respond to heartfelt enthusiasm about the subject. They recognize the teachers who love to teach, and view themselves as facilitators - like a gardener. Physical presentation is important, along with a physical presence. Arrange the classroom so you can walk around it, to connect with the students in the back and middle of the room.

Trevor,
All of these factors contribute to an overall professional image. This is why we need to remember we are always on stage no matter where we are in the school.

The way I present myself inside and out of the classroom which includes how I interact with and respond to my students and co-workers, my appearance, my behavior, punctuality, and how I set rules and/or boundaries and the consistency of them.

Ursula,
So true and a critical part of the total educational process for students. We are to be models of what we expect of them.

Instructional professionalism includes being a positive role model so that students know what the expectations are in the industry to which they are aspiring.

Instructional Professionalism is defined as showing up to class mentally and physically prepared. To be mentally prepared for class, the instructor should have an outline of how to present the text's content. Physically, the instructor should be dressed according to the appropriate dress code of the school or the industry norm that instructor is teaching. Also, the instructor should arrive early with enough time that is required to make copies of handouts, set-up any equipment needed for class discussions, and arranging the instructors notes or paperwork necessary to conduct class. Furthermore, the instructor must be present inside and outside of class. The for an instructor to be a "Professional Instructor" they should make themselves available to their students outside of class to assist with any questions or concerns regarding the required assignments.

Aneisha,
Good definition of how an instructor can be a professional educator as well as a model for the field.

Instructional professionalism to me entails presenting materials in a structured, organized fashion, having a thorough understanding the materials, making eye contact with students, asking thought provoking questions that add value to the courseroom discussion, and just making good use of class time.

J,
So true and so important to and for the development of all students.

Instructional Professionalism is about displaying personal ethics, quality work and a quality attitude in the classroom setting. Setting the standards for expected student behavior and leading by example.

Mike,
This is an ongoing struggle. I am faced with this every time I teach. I work hard to provide positive learning opportunities for my students. I am sad when I don't reach a student but I know that I have done all I can do professionally to help that person and at that point the learning rests on them and their commitment to their future.

Mike,
This puts you in a position of being a model for your students and I commend you for the way you are modeling the behavior you want from your students.

I have been an instructor for twelve years and still have trouble motivating the un-motivated.

a real love for the subject matter will help and individual to become a good teacher. Apathy will discourage potential students.

I agree that a good teacher must be prompt, and have a good appearance as well as being prepared for each lesson.

Showing the students that you like teaching the subject is important as well as motivating them to like it too.
