Conduct the teaching with good grammer and no vulgar language. Include students in the lesson and encourage them to interact through positive reinforcement.

Following the course syllibus and conducting myself in a respectful manner. Treating each student as I would like to be treated. Being prepared and knowing the subject matter.

Eunita,
Good point about how to reflect professionalism with you students. This is such important part of your modeling for the growth of your students.

Instructional professionalism means how you present yourself to the student this includes how to dress, your mannerism, your language and how you present in information to the students

Professionalism is demonstrated not only through physical appearance but also through demeanor. I feel it is very important to have a sense of confidence and in order to have that you must be over prepared for any given subject.

Keli,
You have to be the role model of your field for these students and the example you give illustrates that fact. So we need to make sure we do a check before we work with our students to make sure we are reflecting the highest standards of your profession.

Again, the students will look at you to set the exemple. To be professional is to show them the best that a person in that particular carrier can do. For exemple, you cannot teach the students to have their nails short if you (the instructor) doen't maintain them short.

SHIVA,
This is so important if you are going to develop rapport with students. Good point, thanks for sharing it with us.

The best way I believe we can do show students that you care, not only about them, but about your profession (and their future profession as well).

Instructional professionalism is demonstrated by modeling the behavior you are teaching

Melissa,
Good point about learning leadership. Also presenting yourself in the best professional way is critical. This way students will see someone in the field that represents what they are working toward.

I would define professionalism as leading by example. Following the rules that you set for your students to show them that they can easily be followed.

Lamarr,
Good professionalism on all accounts. You are being a model in all aspects of the career development process.

My experience is to carry yourself as a professional in your industry. Show your students how you will act in a professional environment which is your classroom. Take control, but do it in a respectable manner so that they respect you as their leader in the current class. Always show that you are prepared and relate text book information to real life scenario's

Brenda,
You make a very good point about the necessity of the human element. This is what keeps the students coming back. They know they have a caring instructor.

How very true! I find that it is an absolute necessity to present my lectures in a form that can be understood by my diverse students. I actually have adult students who do not read well and definitely have comprehension difficulties. All my students know that if I do not know the correct answer to one of their questions, that I will admit that I do not know and tell them that I will find the answer so that we can ALL learn. The "human" element is quite necessary in order to be an effective instructor.

I define instructional professionalism as being
a role model for students who are learning a profession. It is important to impart confidence in knowing the subject matter, dress appropriately and demonstrate the importance of being on time and prepared for class. Knowledge of the college's mission statement and imparting that information to the students is also significant. Demonstrating enthusiasm for the field to the students is a large factor in maintaining the attention of students who are eager to learn. Most importantly, the students
must feel a sense of trust that you are invested
in their success.

Robert,
I agree with you about helping students to see the value of meeting deadlines with their assignments. This is the training and discipline they need for career success. Modeling these deadlines and being consistent in their enforcement helps to show the students where they need to go in their career development.

Donald,
All good components of developing into a professional educator. We all need to keep these components in mind as we approach the classroom each time.

Instructional Professionalism goes beyond presentation of material and appearance. In my experiences, when a date is set for assignments to be completed, a date should also be set for those assignments to be assessed and graded. It is important to set an example for students that are using the instructor as a model by being on time with anything that the instructor has promised to accomplish.
