Freddie,
So true about bringing passion into the classroom. If you are not excited about teaching the content it is for sure the students won't be either. It is fun to share and the students should see that each time you teach.

My perspective is that it involves displaying a passion for the material in which you are teaching. Also, it involves displaying integrity to the fullest in the classroom. The instructor also, seeks to ensure that behavior is displayed with their students.
Miriam,
You have shared with us a very comprehensive and clear definition of instructional professionalism. By following this definition you will be serving as an excellent role model for your students.

I believe that professionalism includes the various ways that an instructor may appropriately and enthusiastically represent their field of study, by showing respect to students through appropriate interaction and personal attire, and by creating well organized and motivating coursework which will help each student (with individual learning styles) to understand how the course material relates to the profession they are striving to become a part of.
Being on time, being prepared, dressing appropriately, acting professionally and treating students with respect.
Elena,
Good definition. It may also include the rapport you develop with your students and how they make application of the content that you are sharing.

In my understanding, Instructional Professionalism can be measured by students' success. If the lecture material delivered in comprehensive and clear way, the students will understand and retain the presented material.
Pamela,
Good definition and one that can be used to plan and impact the instructional process to do the things that you have listed. Thanks for sharing it with us.

My definition of instructional professionalism is about being the whole package. Model, Manager, Motivator and Mentor. It's about knowing your business and representing oneself and skills in the most honest and positive way possible. It's about standing before a room of curious minds and inspiring them to want to acheive all the instructor has and more. It's being able to deliver all the whos, whats, whens, wheres, whys and hows and being a positive agent for change.
Paul,
You have a great start on your professional development and the projection of professionalism. You are going to do great as an instructor. I wish you much teaching success and many rewards in terms of the lives that you will be impacting.

Hi Dr Meers, I'm a new instructor still going through soft skills, but I would say instructional professionalism is how an instructor presents professionalism to his students. Couple examples I can think of; having class room set up and perpared before students arive, greeting students at door, dressing in proper atire, starting class on time with an objection for the days studies, and relaying the importants to the students that they need to conduct themselves as a professional.
Angie,
Good comments that can be of value to all instructors. We need to remember to repeat and reinforce our message so the students will be able to internalize the content and make application of it when appropriate.

I define it as being organized, prepared and treating all students with respect. How can you effectively run a classroom if you are not organized and prepared. In addition you need to be knowledgeable about the subject matter you are teaching. Along, with this I believe you need to have clear and concise goals and make sure your expectations are known. Do not assume your students understand what you are looking for, give examples, model waht you want done.
Dennis,
You have a good start on defining your instructional style. As you gain experience as an educator your style will evolve and you will continue to find ways that bring you reward as an educator while impacting the lives of your students.

Dawn,
You make a good point about the need for balance in your relationship with students. Be a professional supportive instructor that respects the students so they in turn can respect you.

being the PRO. in knowledge, appearance, and encourgment. I can look the part,be the part and explain the part where my past experiance and knowledge project a true professional.
This being my first position in the field of Health Care Education creates a unique environment for me as well as new opportunities for learning, growth, and development.
For this reason, I have yet to define my own personal style of instruction. Instructional Professionalism I believe focuses on the individual and how their personal attitues, beliefs, and behaviors influence the learning process while utilizing a process consistant with institutional, program, and curriculum goals.
I define instructional professionalism as the willingness to continuously find new ways to effectivly engage in "learner based" educational delivery.
