Teaches you how to manage your time

Students should feel comfortable and condfident in the classroom. It is important that they feel this way so they can focus on the lesson plan at hand.

The Learning Environment plays a very important role. If at all possible, I thing it would be important to have students shadow employees specific to the role for which they are in training, in real-life settings. To have evaluations done by the student and the person who is being shadowed.

I think this can be interesting for facilitated group discussions back in the classroom setting.

The learning environment needs to reflect the workplace. Many students complain about spending money to attend school only to find that they are not prepared for the workplace. The learning environment should be a simulation of what students will encounter at work.

The learning environment must be well kept and not over stimulating. If there is too much going on in the room visually it will be difficult to keep the student and in some cases yourself focused. The room should be inviting but not to relaxing at the same time.

Hi Heather,
Simple yet essential to have control over if the class is going to go well. A too cold or hot room gets the students thinking about comfort and not content so the effectiveness of instruction is lost.

A very important role. It must be a welcoming and supportive environment accompanied with positive feedback and constructive criticism.

Temperature and seating can also play an imperative role. If possible, it is a good idea to switch up the room and put students in groups to get to know each other and make them all feel part of a team. Lighting plays a role too.

There are many factors that effect the environment. These are just a few.

It makes the student feel comforatble with the surroundings and feel compatible to the instructor and the method of teaching. enhances the student motivation and confidence in their learning ability

The learning environment is essential for classroom success. When I taught elementary school I was able to shape student behaviors with the environment. For example just the placement of the shelfs in the classroom would encourage students to walk instead of run. Also making sure there is adequate light and that students can see the white board are important factors.

A comfortable, welcoming environment, whether a classroom, office, retail store, or almost any other setting, is critical to the productivity of those working there.

Hi Jennelle,
So true. The more accurately we can do this the less trauma there will be for students as they transition to the work place.

In a career college, the learning environment must be as close to the actual field situations as possible. This allows the student to feel they will be able to perform the skills in the actual environment when necessary.

It is extremely important to provide an enviornment that is supportive of learning. Adequate space, temperature, ventilation, in addition to proper classroom materials such as desks and teacher resources such as whiteboards all play a significant role in the learning environment.

Hi Dale,
You make a good point and that is why it is so important to do what you do before the class meets. By knowing that everything is working you can relax a bit and focus on getting the class off to a good start.

In a lab environment< I attempt to re-create the setting that the students will be performing the real world task in. This requires having the lab set up in advance, including all equipment, so students do not grow restless and bored. keeping the students intrest is paramount to the learnig exercise.

To me, the learning environment is not a motivational source, but a possible source of dissatisfaction. The beginning point for effective learning is the classroom environment. I like to check before class for proper operation of AV equipment and presence of addiquate supplies. And I carry back ups just in case!

Students need to hear the instructor so ensuring that student talking that does not relate to the material is discouraged

Hi Thomas,
You make a number of very good points concerning how the environment impacts success or failure when it comes to student learning. We instructors need to be on guard so we make sure that we do all we can to create a positive and supportive setting for our students.

Hi Jon,
I like your use of words in terms of "the perfect canvass on which the student and instructor interact in the most efficient and productive means possible." This really creates a picture of what learning is suppose to be about. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Gary

Hi Robin,
You make a good point and one that is so important in setting the tone for the class. If students feel comfortable, safe and accepted they will be able to focus on the course content in preparation for learning. To not feel this way causes disruptions in the learning process as we all know.
