The students need to know whats it is going to be like in the work field. For example the dress code, they need to dress just as if they were in a clinic. It gets them in the habbit of what its will be like after the program.

I believe the learning environment is as important to the student as is the course and course content. The environment - classroom - provides the "seat" of learning. If this environment has climate or noise distractions, the student will either consciously or subconsciously scare his/her ability to learning with these distractions.

I pride myself on maintaining the instructional environment.

Hi Jody,
This is what makes learning real. When we are in the "real world" doing "real world" things we start to see how our education is coming together and will benefit us. That is why it is so important for students to see application and relevancy to what they are learning.

It plays an important part the environment needs to be comfortable so that the students can pay attention on the subject that is being taught instead of not being able to concentrate due to the fact that they are uncomfortable.

The other thing is for the instructor to make sure that they have all of the learning materials at hand for the students whether it may be text books, media usage and or other elcetronics that will help with the learning process and styles.

The learning environment needs to be conducive to abosorbing what is being to taught. If there are distractions, such as disorganization, uncomfortable temperature or chairs, it will interfere with how a student learns.

The environment of the classroom is very important as it embodies the physical and psychological atmosphere in which the teaching-learning process occurs. It represents the school's and the instructor's values and importance placed on education, and conveys respect for the students and their needs. The environment should suuport an instructor's ability to interact with students.

I instruct at an online university so we have a virtual campus.

The elements that are available to our students at my particular University are several; we have the typical discussion boards, submitted assignment folders for Word Doc, Excel and PowerPoint Presentations, but we also utilize Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional Live Chats, wherein we can use multi-media tools to address visual and auditory learners as well as those who do well with written mediums. The only sense missing is tactile, unless one wishes to include manipulating a mouse/cursor around a screen and interacting with a keyboard, which I suppose does encompass tactile learning and navigation.

Another nice tool we have is 7/24 instant messaging, so that students can see and talk to instructors and vice versa whenever both participants are online. We have an extensive virtual library, learning labs for specialized tutoring and web-based chats and seminars as well as a Virtual Community comprised of business and life communities addressing a wide variety of interests and topics. Coupled with the anytime/anywhere ability to learn wherever Internet access is available, makes learning available to many who otherwise would be unable to pursue a degree in higher education.

Key to the success of our University is the platform, which is not only robust in terms of features and functionality but also in terms of navigation, wherein an easy to use/intuitive interface places all capabilities within the reach of our diverse universe of global students.

New students quickly assimilate and feel comfortable within the first week and some within 1 to 2 days of access.

This is an interesting thread and I am reminded of when I was in technical school as I look to embark on teaching technical school and I would have benefited more from having more skills labs and opportunities to apply my learning in a real situation. My most effective learning opportunities were when I did externships and was able to apply what I gained in lecture to an actual work place experience. Simulations helped and I would not discount them, but the real learning came (for me) on the job.

The learning environment should be a place where the student can focus on the material. This includes instructional material, instructor preparation, temperature, lighting, etc. The evironment sets the backdrop and general atmosphere for the students' experience.

Much, much, much, if things are not right in a setting you open the door for complaints until the end of class. Let your students know that the issue has been reported, and will be addressed as soon as approved.

The learning environment is very important for what the students will take away from the class. This has as much to do with re-creating what students will be facing in the field as well as the culture of the class. As a student, I would get frustrated when, because of other students being distracting, I had a hard time focusing on what the teacher was trying to get across. It was even more frustrating when the teacher could tell it was going on, and let the distractions continue anyway.

In my lab it is essential for the students to become familiar with the engine and components that they will be working on in the field

students need to be comfortable and relax

The classroom should be as close as possible to working conditions. It would help students adapt from what they consider normal to what they will experience in the field. Mentally there is comfort in what is known, rather than walking into the unknown. Also, visual stimulation of familiar settings may invoke memory of lessons learned in class.

That is great. Keeping it close to real life prepares the student for the real job situation.

I make every attempt to make the learning environment as close to real life as possible.

I agree that is the best situation. In many cases I struggle as a business teacher to create a strong learning environment that represents the business world. This is especially tricky when you are teaching a course online.

The learning environment is crucial! A student must feel comfortable in their environment in order to flourish in their learning.

The learning environment is very important. The student needs to feel comfortable in the classroom as far as not to cold not to warm. They need to know that what they have to say is important, that they are important, that their thoughts are important, that we all learn from each other and everyone contributes to the process.
